Best looking Sony unit in years.

Alpine is getting worse granted, But pioneer offers nothing worth buying all there systems in 06 have good features but non of them have the ones that should go to gether. Example, the one with the best sound CANNOT have nav what so ever. and is not double din... and has horrible buttons, the hdd nav deck plays DVDs in dual zone and no where else, and you cant do ANY thing while you drive. AVIC is just shit.

IMO everyheadunit is going to hell FAST. Oh and atleast ALPINE plays DVD audio, i mean wtf come on DVD audio is amazing.

EDIT GIGA PANEL????

# Giga Panel faceplate with 1GB of built-in memory

Whats that even do?

Also its not like sony doenst have the money to or the technology to become good quality car audio they choose not to.

That HU is overpriced,I can get a 790 for the same coin......Sonys best years are long gone,20 years ago they were top notch

but they have gone low end, while yhey still have the good name of Sony which

alot of people associate with quality - Its far from the truth...

Howevere if they wanted to get back on top ,they would have to make some serious moves to new features and super SQ and they have not, really

features do not make SQ -

A few years ago Kenwood/Excelon was garbage, today they have turned things around

and IMO make one the of the line ups of HUs on the market -

Next
After the several years-long stretch of really serious quality control issues Kenwood sadly endured, though, it's been a tough climb back to where a large portion of the buying public would even seriously consider a Kenwood product much less actually purchase one, unfortunately.

I personally think this Sony looks pretty decent:

Not saying it performs well, or that I would ever buy it. However, the first time I flipped through my crutchfield mag and saw it, I stopped and had to look again to make sure I wasn't seeing things that it was from Sony.

that looks nice, kinda like a home audio receiver

I personally think this Sony looks pretty decent:
My sister's BF has the same deck, and it works like any other deck should. My JVC SH-707 has that front AUX input, and it's a nice feature. However, everyone knows the preformance AUX provides... In terms of Ipod preformance that is...

Sony is alot like dell... all marketing, a loyal fan base of morons and a sterling reputation they hardly deserve...

in the end they sell overpriced junk, but they understand how to sell things... it's good business but crap products....

I'll never buy anything Sony except for their TVs, which surprisingly is one of their few products to have any quality.. I've been burned too many times in the past by Sony 'quality' when it comes to audio gear, both home and mobile..

The Sony GT300, GT400 and GT500 all have the same button layout as the MEX-1GP (The unit you have pictured) only they have grey colors as opposed to the black. They're all pretty solid units for the money, especially at retail prices. As stated earlier by JmanpC its hard to sell people units other then the sony's sometimes just because of the built in AUX. All of the GT decks have built in aux, and all are less then $199.95 at retail.

How about the attached Specialty Series H/U? They come with a 2 year warranty. The GT705DX comes with:

» CD player with built-in amplifier (17 watts RMS/52 peak x 4 channels)

» plays CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs — including discs loaded with MP3, WMA, and ATRAC3plus (format on Sony's online music store) music files

» flip-down, aluminum faceplate with fluorescent display

» HDEQ with a 13-band parametric equalizer

» loudness

» BBE processing

» Dynamic Soundstage Organizer

» 24-bit digital to analog converter

» three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs

» subwoofer controls

» high- and low-pass filters

» Aux Lite auxiliary input

» CD changer controls

» satellite radio-ready (XM or SIRIUS tuner, subscription, and antenna required)

» CD Text compatible

» clock

» SSIR-EXA AM/FM tuner

» 18 FM/12 AM presets

» seek tuning

» remote control

» CD frequency response: 10-20,000 Hz

» CD signal-to-noise ratio: 120 dB

» FM sensitivity: 9 dBf

The GT805DX comes the same stuff, it has a motorized face and more flexible sound engine.
