it still looks to flashy and plasticky for my taste. too many buttons cluttering up the face. i like my 2 mult-knobs. tehe.

Sony could make the best headunit on the market if they wanted to. Remember the mobile es stuff from back in the 90's there was nothing out there that had shit on there stuff. It was the most advanced at the time.

If you look at there specs on the headunits now there the best out there. Signal to noise ratio 120 the closest thing to that is alpine at 105. FM sensitivity 9 dbf not many others have that good of recepition except alpine.

Also sony uses 24 bit burr brown converters in the decks now and 4 volt preouts. I have always hated the xplod stuff it was some cheap shit they come up with for mass marketing. Sony needs to drop xplod and go back to the mobile ES brand name.

hey i got a sony m8805x the active black panel and it still work jsut like the day i bought it 2 years ago. if you don't buy the junk form best buy. some shops have same model look with better guts.

Mark my words...alpine is heading in the wrong direction. Now they are mass producing just about everything accept the F1 Status stuff. There New HUs make the 05's with glidetouch look like the Eclipse CD 7000. I have messed with just about all of their 06 line...All of them feel cheap and their features are slowly disapearing.

I had a Sony U8000 back in the day. Cool head unit. If I remember correctly, it was one of the first head units to ever have a detachable face. I loved its clean looks.

those sonys sell like mad at CC. They're probably account for 50% of the h/u's I install. The GT100's fly off the shelves because they have the input on the front panel. The only other one with that feature is a $160 JVC, and the Sony is only $100. Honestly, I think that is genius on Sony's part. Not to mention that sony makes the cheapest MP3/WMA units, aside from Jensen, which is junk. For the average consumer, the Sony decks are a slam dunk.
Input jack on the faceplate, sub controls, remote, "52w x 4" amp, CD text, detachable faceplate, MP3/WMA playback and good looks for $120... Sony has it right. If Pioneer, JVC or Panasonic could offer the same features for the same price, they would fly off the shelves like the sonys do.

I'm not sayin that the sony is a great unit, but they definately appeal to the customer the most.

So what you're telling us is that while the R & D guys may be off their game the marketing dept. is right on the money, eh?

Not saying it performs well, or that I would ever buy it. However, the first time I flipped through my crutchfield mag and saw it, I stopped and had to look again to make sure I wasn't seeing things that it was from Sony.

Too bad its still the same transport. And that leads me to believe the problems from the past probally remain. And as for head unit sales goes Top 5 in order for units moved in the 2005 model year in Canada went as follows. Pioneer, JVC, Sony, Panasonic, Clarion. I have been told that the US market was very similar in that they had the same top 5 but Panasonic and Sony were reversed.

That HU is overpriced,I can get a 790 for the same coin......

Sonys best years are long gone,20 years ago they were top notch

but they have gone low end,while yhey still have the good name of Sony which

alot of people associate with quality - Its far from the truth...

Howevere if they wanted to get back on top ,they would have to make some serious moves to new features and super SQ and they have not,really

features do not make SQ -

A few years ago Kenwood/Excelon was garbage,today they have turned things around

and IMO make one the of the line ups of HUs on the market -
