Those 2 premiers have the same internals, so I doubt that you will hear any difference between them. They are too bright sounding units for me. I'd go with $100 Clarion DXZ665MP. It has the same internals as Clarions' $500 DXZ955MC but no DVD playback, no color screen, no 5.1 preamp outputs, no software for time alignment and a bunch of practically useless digital sound enhancements. Both of them have VERY natural and dynamic sound.

if you're going to stick with the pioneer (short of DEH-P880PRS) both the DEH-P9800BT and DEH-P980BT both utilize a 24-bit digital-to-analog converter unlike most which are just a 1-bit. you've got to read carefully though. some manufacturers like to fudge the info into reading differently.

I really like the sound of my Premier DEX M88 it has optical outputs and to me was very comparable in sound with the Alpine 7909 back in the day...
