Best Direction To Face Subwoofers

I doubt you want spl

spl is playing one tone as loud as you can and no music

I would fire them backwards as long as the box doesn't block all air flow around it. if it does fire them forward.

firing back should sound louder windows up, while forward will more than likely be louder with windows down

Experimentation is how to determine this. Some math and an understanding of phase interference can help narrow down options.

In sedans or coupes I like firing subs into the cabin and sealing off the trunk completely. In hatchbacks and SUV's I like rear corner or off the rear of the vehicle facing back. I want to eliminate phase interference that happens when the reflected wave is out of phase with the direct wave. This matters for both SQ and SPL.
