I decided set aside 3,000 dollars for my car audio because right now its completly stock and it annoys me. I'm also a almost a complete noob as far as knowledge of a good system, I probably for the life of me could not put something decent together. So if you have time could you tell me what I could buy for a decent sounding system. If it requires you go over buy a couple hundred thats fine to.. thanks.

Wow, thats a pretty broad question. Everyone on the board is gonna have a different opionion. What I suggest is that you look at some of the installs that our members have posted up to get an idea of what you want. Such as what are you looking for in a HU and what kind of space limitations do you have. Are you willing to make upgrades to your engine to power tons of watts.

Right, its a 2000 Intrepid, I have tons of space. I can use my entire back seat and the trunk. Engine upgrades I can do.

My friend suggested a system for me but I figured I would ask here first. BTW I Think he said it is all Alpine.

Head Unit

CDA-9807

Front Speaker

SPS-080A 3-1/2" Type-S Series Coaxial 2-Way Speaker

Rear Speaker

SPR-694A 6" x 9" Type-R Coaxial 2-Way Speaker

Front Amplifier

MRV-T420 2/1 Channel Power Amplifier

Rear Amplifier

MRV-T420 2/1 Channel Power Amplifier

Subwoofers

4 SWR-1221D 12" Type-R Series Subwoofer (2ohm + 2ohm)

Subwoofer Amplifier

2 MRD-M500 V12

He said it would cost $3,160.00 which isnt bad and from what I can tell that HU looks good. Thanks.

Systems comprised of all the same brand name are nice but not always the best or cost efficient way to go. Alpine HUs are excellent quality, personally I dont like the way they look but thats just me. They are loaded with features.

For your highs you might want to just get a 4 ch amp instead of 2 seperate amps.

I'm not sure about those particular model numbers on the alpines, but if it is coming with 3.5" coaxials and 6x9's along with that lower end alpine deck you aren't getting a great deal.

What I would do is go to your local car audio shop and listen to component speaker sets to decide what you like. Everyone has different tastes, but you can get a **** nice set of components, to your taste, for $600. Check out brands like Diamond audio, Dynaudio, Rainbow, Focal Utopia series, CDT Eurosports, all make top of the line component sets.

Once you find what you like check on the internet and see if you can find a reputable store that sales the kind you like. You pay big premiums if you buy from the store.

A very nice alpine head unit is the 9815, check the stores though and see if some of the other brands may have more of what you're looking for. The 9815 runs about $350 off of ebay.

You will want an amp for your components, you want an rms rating a little over what your components rms is rated at so you can have some head room with the power. You can buy a nice US Acoustics 100x2 amp from thezeb.com for $100, something along those lines will work great. If you're really wanting to spend the whole $3000 you can get into a zapco reference 350 for around $450.

The next part is dependent on what you want your system to do. If you want a really loud system you could go with something like a Resonant Engineering 18" XXX or 18" MT. You can pick the XXX up for around $600 I believe from respl.com (don't quote me on that). If you are looking for sound quality that can get loud I would check out Elemental Designs A series or a Stereo Integrity Magnum D2, stereointegrity.com--I personally own this sub and love it. You could pick up two of either of those for around $600.

You will need an amp for your sub. Either way you go 2000 watts will play those subs very well. A Tsunami 1800 or 2 pic 880.2 will work well and both setups go for around $400 total.

You will need wiring and a box, say $100 for each, wiring wont be quite that much but we'll round up. Sound damping is another good one which will be another $100 or so.

You could very well end up needing a new alternator and battery for your amp(s) which will run you in the neighborhood of $300.

Let's tally it up:

Head Unit: $350

Components $600

Component amp $450

Sub(s) $600

Sub amp(s) $400

Wiring $100

Sound Damping $100

Sub box $100

Amp and battery-$300

Total comes to...$3000 on the nose

Hope this helps a little bit. Good luck.

Mike

You dont have to spend $600 for a good set of components either. I got the cdt classics from http://www.thezeb.com for $150 and there the best set of components Ive ever owned. Keep in mine that these our the lowest line of cdts compnents and the reason they are so cheap is because the paint didnt turn out right on them or something.

Well, the system that your friend put together is A LOT of the lower lines from alpine. One of alpines lowest HU's...lower quality coaxials instead of components...plus there's better quality subs than the type r's.

Shugarra made some great recommendations. Here's what i would recommend.

HU: Alpine 7995 ($300) this instead of the 9815 b/c the 7995 has no internal amp and since ur using amps to power speakers it's not needed. http://store.yahoo.com/discountsonline/alcda7cdrec.html

Speakers: CDT HD-62CF great components from CDT...i just wouldn't spend $600 when i can get these amazing compoents for $200 and they are still great! (http://www.thezeb.com)

Speaker amp: U.S. acoustics usx 2100 ($100) no need to spend $450 on an amp when sound will not be different.

Subs: 2 stereo integrity Magnum d2's ($600 for both shipped)...GREAT SQL subs. Sound amazing and will get loud! also, you don't need thousand upon thousands of watts. http://www.stereointegrity.com

Sub amp: Tsunami db1800 ($350) great amp that will power those 2 magnums perfectly. http://avionixxusa.com/ep/products.htm

Electrical: 200 amp alternator ($300 or less) http://www.excessiveamperage.com

red top under the hood ($120) ebay

yellow top for rear ($140) ebay

Wiring: 1/0 awg welding cable (http://www.weldingsupply.com)

$.99 a foot, plus ring terminals

Connections: ebay: 2 sets of battery terminals (knukonceptz), 1 1/0 anl fuse holder, 1 4awg anl fuse holder, 1 8awg fuse holder, 1 250amp anl fuse, 1 150-200 anl fuse, 1 50amp fuse.

Box: Give them 2cubes each (after displacement) ported @30hz.

Total: bout $2500...it'll sound amazing and be loud (and kick that other setup's ***!)...and you'll have VERY stable electrical system...all the connections and wiring you need and it'll look good with that equipment if you do it right. good luck. peace
