Best Components, Which have you heard?

I find myself incredibly frustrated these days with the sound system in my car. I can't seem to find the right sounding speakers.

I listen to ROCK music, and I love it HEAVY, LOUD AND CLEAR.

What I have right now hurts my ear when I crank it loud, its a kind of screaming nasty sound that just flat out sucks sometimes. I need a nice sounding system where the tweeter doesnt kill my ears when blasting loud.

So looking in the market for new components Im going all out. But since I've wasted SOOOOO much $$ in the past swtiching my speakers constantly, I wanna make sure this time I get the right set.

There are almost no top end audio stores in my area to listen to music. Everywehre is just selling the crap. Latley Ive been looking into The focal line of components, the 165W and the 165k2p. Everyone seems to have something differenet to say.

So what Im really asking you guys, Who has actually heard some CRAZY top end speakers that are able to represent LOUD, HEAVY, HARD, FAST ROCK amazingly? I need something with some good strong midbass upfront.

I notice a lot of people reccomend speakers without having really ever heard them. SO what HAVE you guys hearD? WHat is your input? What do you guys have running? Let me know so I can finally get some sleep at night!

The budget Im working on is roughly $500-$600.

alpine type x and oz matrix elites. both have good midbass and the tweeters arent overly harsh on either. atleast compared to infinitys

Seas Lotus Reference

or run Active and pick up a Seas 27TDFC ($30 each at madisound) and Seas CA18RNX ($60 each at madisound). You'll need an active-ready headunit w/ at least 3-way xovers and a nice equalizer. Eclipse 8053/8454/8455, Alpine 7998 would work amazing.

I just picked up a set of Seas Lotus Reference, they are in transit now as we speak. I can't wait to finally hear a set

best set i've heard thus far is the seas lotus reference set. can be had at mobilesq.com for a $670. or you can buy just the speakers for $600 and run them actively.

if thats too high, maybe the DLS iridiums. can be had for around $450-500 or so.

i listen to the same type of music and love my focal 165w3s I actually drove 3 hours to audition them vs. dynaudios. but you have to listen for yourself dont just take an opinion everyones ears and tastes are different

i got the PG ti elites (morel drivers)..i liek them a lot..tweet isnt harsh..nice warm sound.

Lots of input here....

The type X i found weak on midbass compared to the type R's. However the X's sounded a little nicer.

Ive never heard of this seas lotus stuff? The company is seas?

The highest end stuff here near where i live is JL, MB Quart, and Focal. But even at that with focal they never have anything other than the access line on display. And premium is as high as quarts go. JL i wasnt very impressed with at all...

I need something with midbass that hits hard and sounds nice. Is it a soft sound I'm looking for that wont hurt my ears? I remeber I liked the way the Alpine type R tweets sounded cause they werent too harsh, but they werent that clear either...

I was thinking of picking up a pair of Focal 165KP for $479 from woofersetc.com

What else is good? Keep the input coming!

Focal K2P's have really good mid bass....I had mine crossed at 60hz with 18db slope and it handled all day long.. The tweeters are very detailed and smooth with right tuning... I'm currently running the Zapco Competition comps right now and the midbass is just sick....and the tweeters are very detailed but very directional....

I've heard the ZR's, I personally didn't think they were that special. Not bad though, just not GREAT.

Dynaudio stuff was nice...... a little peaky in the upper mids in the install I heard them in. I had a problem with my Focals getting more than 100w so I have a fear of their ability to handle a lot of power and play loud.

Having owned these for a year, I'm still very impressed with my Aura MR62s. Worth considering if these ever come up for sale.

Best comps I've heard are the JL ZR series.

I heard these too and didnt really like the sound. I guess it depends on the music you're playing, I poped in an Alexisonfire cd in this store manager's beamer running 2 ZR comps in the front, no rear fill, and a W7 in the trunk.

I found it didn't sound as loud and clean as my setup running much "cheaper" stuff.

I had 2 Pioneer 10s running of 500rms(250each) and a pair of MBQuart Premium mids paired up with Kappa Tweeters (not the kappa perfect ones, a tweeter set I bought off ebay 10.7t i think...)

He had a ZR set installed in the facorty locations and a second set installed in kick panels...
