Best Buy system for a Jeep Patriot, advice requested.

I have about $650 worth of credit at Best Buy and am considering using it (and maybe putting in a couple hundred bucks more out of pocket) to upgrade my Jeep Patriot's audio. The biggest limitation is obviously the fact that $650 worth of the comonents (and preferably all of them) have to come from Best Buy. The Jeep Patriot can fit 6x9 speakers in the front, rear, and trunk. I don't currently have any advanced audio package and don't intend to keep any of the factory components. I can choose my own head unit, but am wondering what to do for speakers and amps. I don't intend to force other commuters to listen to my music so the main consideration besides staying close $650 is SQ, not volume.

Advice on what is worth buying from Best Buy that will keep me close to that budget?

That's just a brand. It tells me nothing about what I actually need to get in order to get the best SQ possible at that price point into my Jeep. What size speakers do they need to be? 2 way? 3 way? Do the speakers need an amp or am I going to get adequate volume out of them using just the head unit? Do I need a subwoofer to round it out? Can I afford a separate subwoofer option with such a price limitation? There is so much more that needs to be said for your answer to be of any value.

Your choices are all going to be mainstream brands, gathering your Best Buy credit. Go there and listen to everthing they have, that will be your best option, and yes the Alpine type R are very good for the money as stated in the post previously.

Best Buy doesn't give you a lot of "great" brands to work with. What he said though is that the Type R series from Alpine that Best Buy has, is your best option available from them. Now its up to you to figure out what size speakers you have stock in all your locations and go from there. Run an Alpine 4ch to the speakers you purchase and not off the HU

I would have to agree that Alpine Type R is really solid for the price in the realm of best buy brands. I'm also a fan of Infinity coaxials/components for low power applications (though they tend to break up over 50w or so)

I must say that with BB you do have the luxury of actually listening to the speakers in person (of course they'll sound different in a display board than they will in your doors), but many people have different preferences and what I think sounds good you may think is too bright, or whatever.

Most "normal" people are quite happy with the output of some good coaxials all around powered off the head unit in factory locations and a small sub (sub makes a lot of difference and is generally the best single upgrade you can do to a factory system to make it sound better). I suspect Best Buy has an all-in-one powered sub package which is a simple solution, or you can get separate amp, sub, and box which would be a bit better, but possibly overkill for you and will take up more space and be a more complicated install.

I get the impression you won't need to amp your components at all, go into best buy and listen to some type R or Infinity 6X9's on just head unit power.

The only thing I really think you may want to shop elsewhere is a head unit. For the best buy price of whatever brand there you like the look and feel of you can generally order a couple model lines up online for less money and Best Buy generally only has the entry level lines of head units.

I'd recommend going with 6.5s in the 6x9 locations if you're more worried about sound quality over output. As far as brands go, head to your local BBY and take a listen to what they've got installed in their wall and make your decision from there. As far as the HU goes, hispls is mostly right. They do carry the 117. I would not consider that an entry level unit. I'd say it's more of an upper mid level unit.

Best Buy car audio = //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

You are paying a ridiculous markup and the kids there don't know anything other than Type Arrrrghhhhhhs

Buy online or go to a local shop where there are more educated salesmen that will provide a level of service BBY can only ********** to while using its own tears for lube.

Yea Best Buy ***** a long hard fat one.

I say this based on the fact that I have worked for BBY and have friends that still work there. 1% of the employeed that work there are thoroughly educated and experienced in the department they work in, the rest are all idiots that are spoon fed sales techniques and product information.

Spend it on a TV when its on sale, that is the ONLY way you will get your moneys worth out of that card. All the audio at best buy is 3-4 times marked up. AKA something that costs them 100$ they sell you for 400$. Trust me i worked there, i know the employee discount.

Word, 4ga wiring kits that sell for upwards of $80-100 go for less than $20 with emp discount. I understand that it is a business and they have to make $, but that kind of markup is just absurd if you ask me.

I would sell the credit. U say you have $650 so turn around and offer the credit to a friend, family member, etc for say $600 cash... They can use it to buy a tv, oven, etc while you can then go buy what you really want and not be limited to 1-2 decent brands
