Best Buy messed my speakers up.

The guy working on it definatly knows what hes doing at least i thought he did. He sayed he used to have 5 15's walled off and a bunch of other stuff but who knows after this ****. Is it possible my speakers are bad? I just bought em last week. they were only $40 for a pair of two..... I have a clarion amp on em 60 rms. The speakers are only rated for 35 rms but your supposed to overpower speakers correct? Also i had them loud but not to the point of distortion or anything. This was litterally half through like the first song.

a clarion amp on my door speakers.
overpowering your speakers can work but only to a point after which you reach the thermal limit of the speaker and poof it goes up in smoke.

60w on a 35w speaker is going to blow it if it is being used to full potential, sometimes u can squeeze more power in but you have to cut all the bass from the speaker

my guess is you where feeding the speakers moderate bass and overpowering them.

from an installer stand point i wouldnt of turned the amp up high enough o put out 40w let along 60w then i would of set the radio to where no bass was coming through the speakers which at this point im assuming are 4x6, 4inch, or 3.5 inch speakers. and i would of informed u that adding bass could damage the speaker

they where wrong for not doing all of this evidently

Gain was inbetween half way and a quarter way up. like 35%. I had bass on -10 on my HU (low as it goes) and he had the HPF set on the amp. They were 6x8's

Well now, looks like ill be needing a new set of door speakers -_-. Any suggestions? i dont wana spend more than $80 each. (2 speakers being each).

Your lesson was not to shop at best buy or have them install. They are retards 95% of the time. They won't replace the speakers but they might refund the install cost. Also @EpicMango, you're speaker wire to the sub looks too thin. Run a thicker gauge wire to the subwoofer and get a better box built. It wil make a big difference.

Also, they used the rear, and front high level inputs instead of RCA's because my HU only has 1 set of RCA's. Coudnt i have just plugged the RCA's into my other amp?

That would be great if they refunded me. ****, i'd be happy to get half my money back because i doubt it will happen.

No. You would need a hu with 2 or more rca outs.
Would the sound quality be any better if i did? Because it wasnt very good at all. Of course i did have cheap speakers. But other users on the website where saying i could hook up the RCA's to the other amp? heres that thread.http://www.caraudio.com/forums/wiring-electrical-installation-help/544865-anyone-wana-answer-few-installation-questions-please.html

Quality will depend on the preout voltage of your hu. But I'm guessing that your hu puts out a poor voltage.

What gauge do you think I should run? I thought myself that they were too small, but I didn't really think about it too much because I was slammin!

KnuKonceptz does 14 gauge in their 4 gauge kit

14 gauge?

if your other amp has RCA inputs and outputs, then yes, it is okay. You could also run RCA splitters but I never do that. Agreed that your HU probably has a low preout voltage and depending on the LOC they used for your amp, yes the way they wired it could be a cause for poor SQ. If they used a nice one though, it is probably the speakers and hu.

14 is okay but try 12. I usually run 8 but it is because I have an abundance of scrap strands.
