Just spend a bit more now, if you go cheap now you'll end up spending more in the long run upgrading cuz you will be dissatisfied. The RE is definitely you're vest bet on budget sub though, great sq and decent spl for the price, but wont impress anybody

Listed in order of least to greatest volume level. To be honest, most likely none of us have heard the ones that are being recommended. We are just going by brand. The reputation these companies have should be reflected even in their budget lines. With the ones I listed the first will probably not impress outside of the vehicle. Just guessing the second may be heard for a block away. The last maybe 2 blocks away. They should have measurements of the enclosure to see if they will fit. They all should be comparable with sound quality. All of them will also most likely put out the amount of power that is claimed. The last one will be the closest most likely to what he is wanting.

None of the prefab boxes will work, is has to be a custom under the seat box. That is why I am looking to get just a 10" sub and amp. My son and I will research box designs and build one on our own during his Christmas break from school. Some quality father son time.

I still suggest checking your local craigslist. Some great deals to be had some times.

I would offer you my 8"(it is beastly) but you won't have much of a budget for an amp.

With help from Zachfeen I have decided to take advantage of the buy one get one deal on the Kicker C108 for $99 for the pair and the SoundStream PCX2.540 amp for $99. This should be a very nice sub $200 combo. Now I have to figure out how to build a box that will work!

this pair of subs would be MUCH better for $118 so your over 18 of your budget.. but he will be much happier.

A few people have mentioned that they preferred the RE AUDIO SRI10D2 over the Kicker C108 and after some research it seems the RE sub requires a smaller enclosure and shallower mounting depth,..both are going to be important seeing as this will be in a box under the rear seat of a F150 (not much room at all).

I would really be grateful for some more opinions on my sub and amp choices.

I forgot to mention my son already has a aftermarket head unit(do you guys still call them "head Units" been a long time since I messed with car audio LOL)with pre-outs.

The RE's will give you more output and better sq, highly recommend them over the kicker comps!!!!!!! kicker has good products, but there comps are not one of them! haha

and yes lol they are still called head units!!
