Best burning software?

I currently use Nero 8 on all my computers, but for some reason, on my media server, it slows down EVERYTHING. I can barely surf the web while working on the computer and backing up data. Nero burns the CD's fast, but if I want to do anything on the computer I have to wait until Nero stops burning. The computer is an older one, but it isn't a slouch, and can keep up with a couple of my computers, but for some reason it hates Nero 8. I'm looking for a burning software that doesn't take up a lot of resources, but I can still manage all of my data with. I would use the built in burning software Windows XP has, but it's difficult to remember what I burned last.

Computer Specs :

Soyo Dragon Ultra KT400 Motherboard

AMD Athlon XP 2100+ overclocked to 2.25Ghz

Consair XMS DDR-400 512MB

Western Digital Raptor 74GB

Multiple External drives (1.3TB total)

While burning anything I transfer from the external drives to the internal drive.

I just use Vista's built-in software ... It works fine for pretty much everything outside of burning disc images and copying DVDs ...

I liked Nero up until version 7 ... actually, version 6 was still kind of slow, but at least it was tolerable and reliable ...

Vista didn't support Nero 6, so I just said fvck it ... I have my older computer w/ Nero 6 and DVD X Copy if I need to burn an image or copy a DVD ...

Nero 8 is the best, but it has gotten too bloated, but when it comes down to it, it is still the most full featured, most powerful burning software out there.

Tried burnatonce? It's no longer being developed, but works just fine. It requires a little bit of knowledge with respect to disc images, but is quick, has a resource footprint, and is simple to use.

my vista pc came with roxio. i like it alot actually. nero was nice but roxio runs pretty quick and is extremely easy. i really only burn music so not that knowledgable. i did burn a dvd once on it and it was just as easy.

roxio on my laptop. nero 7 on my desktop. i like nero 7 alot. nero 7, dvd decrypter (freeware), vso divxtodvd (freeware), and db power amp. those 4 will do anything, rip, convert, burn, edit, compress, de-compress, label the disc and bang your girl.

nero should run fine on that machine if you got more memory for it...check what the max is for that motherboard at http://www.crucial.com...

512 is not nearly enough to run anything anymore...i moved my P4 2.4 to a full gig of ram and its moves just like i want it...i dont play games so the video processing doesnt matter to me...i use my machine for burning CDs...Internet....and music editing...works fine on a gig of ram...

also programs like ccleaner and ad-aware keep things uncluttered...
