Hey all, looking to get a new battery for my 01 escort zx2

The battery is stock right now (autozone tells me its a 58 series)

was looking to get a redtop, but autozone says itll sit too high

Does anyone have any recommendations on a battery that i could use?

did they say why it will sit too high? the only reason i could see why it would sit too high would be maybe your stock battery is a side post, and the one you were looking at is a top post. get some measurements on the stock battery, i.e. height, width, length...then, take a look at the optima site. they have quite a few batteries that have both side and top posts. also, is this battery going to be just a starting battery, or will it be used for audio as well? if the latter, i would recommend using a yellow top. they are a dual purpose deep-cycle. red tops are good for starter batteries, but they lose the amperage very quickly. not a good thing if this will be used for car audio.

BTW...here is the link for Optima: http://www.optimabatteries.com/publish/optima/americas0/en/config/splash.html

Hope this helped!

i would look into a dual purpose battery: yellow top. my vehicle uses the group51 series but i was able to snug in a Group34 yellow top (standard size). took a lot of tugging with the tie down latch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

it will be used to replace the stock, but i do have a rather large audio system (2kw), plus other random accessories. I will take measurements, and I guess a yellow top would be a better choice then

You also have the option of running two batteries. Don't know if you want to go that route, but it isn't that hard. Then, you wouldn't have to worry about fitting something under the hood. With 2kw, it might not hurt to run 2 batteries. Leave your stock under the hood, and drop in a 34 or 31 YT in the trunk. Just an idea. i will probably end up doing something similar due to the fact that i cannot fit anything larger than a 34 under the hood in my car.

i have heard from some people that putting an extra battery in the trunk and leaving the stock under the hood will hurt a stock alt.. is that true?

105A alt and looking to put in a hifonics bxi 1606..
