battery terminal wont come off

hey folks, i've got a major problem here

the battery terminal on a side mount battery will not come off, i used the right socket size, and it just sat there untill it stripped it, i've tried a wrench and vice grips, still, everything just keeps stripping it more and more, i dont know what else to do, any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Josh

yeah i ain't gonna be that risky with this vehicle, mainly because it's my gf's and not mine, however xmas is coming and the system was already bought as a xmas present, so why not a new battery too, right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif thanks for the advice

for some reason that doesnt sound to smart
Nothing bad happens....

Just cleans the terminals....

i had the same problem trying to change out my battery, so i bought new terminals and gonna cut and restrip the wires
x2.

Cut the batt. cables as close as you can to the existing terminal so later on when reinstalling you don't have length issues....

BE SURE TO DISCONNECT NEG. FIRST THEN POSITIVE, THEN REINSTALL POSITIVE FIRST AND NEG. LAST!

Also, put some silicone spray, RTV, or grease on your terminals after you put them on, keeps corrosion away.

this is why you gotta use a dielectric

same reason that starters go bad 99.9% of the time, and why i had to replace my alternator when simply trying to do the big 3

electrically charged bolts/nuts corrode and fuse together over time

they'll actually break apart as one piece, most likely, and then the terminal will have no threads

On a side note, keep in mind that positive and negative battery posts are NOT the same size............

Ask me how i found out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif
