battery gauge problem.

i was drivin down the road ,, jammin but not to loud,, bout average.. and my battery gauge on the dash went all the way down far as it would go.. and my check gauges light came on the dash too.. so i parked it and all my batterys read a lil over 12 volts with the motor shut off. so my batterys checked out ok, when i started it back up my gauge was workin again,, but havent drivin it since then,,,, what could have been or is the problem?

probably a bad connection somehwere in the gauge wiring.
