battery charger problem

Bought one of these chargers Amazon.com: Schumacher SSC-1000A SpeedCharge 2/6/10 Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer with 50-Amp Battery Clips: Automotive

Hooked it up to my xs power and set it on 6 amps and came back to check it 15 mins later and the battery was reading 16v while charging. Unplugged it and decided to do some reading and it seems to be normal for the charger but I know thats way too high for xs power batteries. Tried it on a lead acid battery that had a weak charge and it was charging for over an hour at 16v and the battery sounded like it was boiling. This charger is supposed to be good for agms and auto cut off/float so i'm stumped. What charger you guys using?

I run a similar schumacher with agm mode and auto shut off .it goes to 15.4..i only use mine on 2a mode ...why are you using 6a? .you will get a fuller charge on a slow long 2a trickle if u havent killed the batt yet

I thought 6a was ok if you didn't want it to take as long? I tried 2a also and the voltage went up to 16v, I know it might take a few hours at 2a but scared that the voltage is too high. Didnt leave charger on battery very long so i think the batter is ok.

I only do 2a even when i charge my whole bank ...im not sure if 16 is correct or not tho..does it have a agm standard and gel button ..have u tried messign with it

Yup I made sure it was on agm mode, It dropped to like 15.5 after a while but Im sure I heard a little his from the battery so at that point I pulled the plug and hoped It was ok. Doesn't xs power recommend charging at 15a?

Not sure i dont run xs ...my car is externally regulated at 15.1 amd i run dekas .no problems

Xs Power recommends that you don't charge above 14.5 so even 15.4 is too high in my opinion. Think i'm gonna return this and look for a new charger, I really dont wanna spend $200 on one from xs power though.

Yea fvck that ..then again i wouldnt waste money on xs batts either lol..good luck

Think it would be safe to leave it on my lead acid battery overnight on 2a? Maybe it just needs a real good charging, the lead acid battery has been sitting for a month and was sitting at 12.5.

Yes i do all the time ..it should auto shutoff..if it doesnt it will be a bomb

At what point does the battery become dangerously unstable? Once all the water/acid evaporates or can it still blow up while wet?

Not sure never had it happen and dont wana see it..ive seen ppl swell up batteries pretty bad so id say it explode before it all boiled out or whatever

Guess you get what you pay for, i'm really considering the xs power charger after my experience with this Schumacher.

My shcumacher was 40 bucks at walmart and i been using it fine for years..u already wasted money on the xs batt why let them **** u for a special charger
