Basic properties of sound and air

I'm planning on modifying my car's interior.

I have a sedan. 2 cvr kicker sub's sealed in the trunk.

Would it increase loudness if there was some type of opening from the trunk into the cabin?

What I was thinking of is, what if I cut holes in the rear seats leading from the trunk to the cabin. Then re-upholstered the seats. Heres a little diagram of what the seat might look like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

X = hole.

times that by 3 and you have the rear bench seat.

Would this opening between the subs in the trunk and the cabin increase loudness?

Would it be an improvement if I enlarged the rear deck speaker holes, and put subs in there instead? (in place of the subs in the trunk)

Or would it be better if I created holes in the rear deck to create an opening from the trunk to the cabin?

If I made a funnel type opening, would that increase loudness?

Or am I retarded for even thinking of this? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

I've been thinking about taking my 6x9s out and going active. This would leave to decently sized holes from my trunk to the cabin of my Caprice. I don't know how much, if any, difference it would make.

what do you mean going active?

I thought active meant using different crossovers or something?

whats that have to do with taking your 6x9's out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Without the rear stage, I can use the head unit in 3 way mode or active mode. Read the active vs passive sticky.

so I looked up active vs passive crossovers, read the sticky, and decided it is way too complicated for my needs. I'm a set-and-forget kind of guy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

When I said I was going to take out the rear deck speakers, I meant take them out of the rear deck, and put them in the rear doors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Would creating a hole from the trunk into the cabin make any noticeable difference?

Yes it will. Depending on the car, it will make alot of difference. Mine is tons louder with the rear seat removed. I used to remove it and drive around and bump just to make blacks mad due to my shit was louder. lolz
Really? Nice, something else i'm wondering is...

If I make holes in the rear deck, will the shape of the hole affect the sound/acoustics of the bass?

If I make a funnel like hole out of fiberglass, starting off small and getting larger as it reaches the rear deck//cabin, would this act as a mega-phone and increase the loudness?

Or would it be better to just make a round hole?

Or would a hole with some depth be better? Like a cylinder shape

Thats something i havent messed with personally, im sure theres math involved in making a horn. What you may wanna do is seal the trunk from the cabin with the subs and port firing into the cabin if you wanna go all out like that. A few members here have done it, im sure theyll chime in.

Most definitely! Figure your port lengths and adjust your box for height.
oh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Too complicated for me.

I tried bumping my system with my rear seats down and it sounded a lot louder.

So I'm gonna just open up some holes from the trunk to the cabin. Leave the box sealed like it is.

I'm thinking holes in the seats and I'll make up some type of design for the rear deck.

Are subwoofers supposed to be mounted down?

mine are in their box but I really don't see a way to mount them down. Is it OK to just leave them in the box sitting there in the trunk? or will the vibrations move them?
