Basic Amplifier power question

If I see these specs on an amp can I always assume it would be 1 X 450 @ 4 ohms? Or is it possible the amp is not designed for a 4 ohm load.

Input sensitivity: 2 mV - 5V

Bass boost @ 45 hz - 12 dB

Class A/B

S/N Ratio: Greater than 95 dB

THD: less than .05 %

Adjustable input voltage: 11 - 14.4 volts

frequency response: 20-28KHz

1 x 1800 watts @ 1 ohm

1 x 900 watts @ 2 ohms

Thanks Biker

If it is stable at 2 Ohms or 1 Ohm it will be stable at 4 Ohms as well.

Going by those ratings it is a pretty safe guess that you're looking at around 450w or so when shown a 4 Ohm load. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Are those ratings RMS output or peak wattage ratings? What amp are we talking about?

Its kind of a generic question while in fact Im looking for around 600 Watts RMS @ 4 ohms. I sometimes see amps rated at 1 or 2 ohms and was wondering if I could use it with 4 ohms.

Any suggestions for a Mono Amp thats 600 Watt RMS @ 4 ohms reasonably priced?

Hmm.....a mono amp that does 600w @ 4 Ohms will likely do considerably more at lower resistance loads and I don't quite know what you're definition of "reasonably priced" might be.

If you're on a really tight budget you might be able to source a 2-channel that will give you 600w when in bridged mono mode cheaper than a monoblock that will give you the same power.

It would likely be more taxing on your electrical system but I do not know exactly what you're running and consequently don't know what your vehicle might support in the way of aftermarket audio gear.

I think I have found my solution. I can save a lot of money by using a Kicker amp. The Ebay ad im talking about above makes this statement on its new Kicker Mono amp.

*************************************************************

THE KICKER ZX300.1 300 WATT MONO CAR AMPLIFIER PUTS OUT A LOT OF POWER, WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THAT EACH KICKER WATT EQUALS 5 OR 10 WATTS OF AMPS MADE BY A LOT OF OTHER COMPANIES. THE CLARITY ON THE ZX SERIES OF AMPS BY KICKER IS AMAZING.

**************************************************************

What do ya all think about that.

Thanks Biker

I think if you're needing 600w then the ZX300.1 isn't going to be suitable for your application.

While it's true that almost all Kicker amps will exceed their rated power output to some degree they don't double it.

That lunacy about Kicker's watts equaling 5 to 10 of the competition's watts is nothing more than advertising hype.

A watt is a watt for the most part.

A 300w RMS Kicker amp and a 300w RMS Lanzar amp will both give you 300w RMS.

The Kicker will do it more reliably for much longer, however, and therein lies the majority of the price difference.
