Baffle Sound?

Nothing to serious.. Had the same issue with my last subs though. I had 2 13kv2's in a sealed box. It sounded good at one point, then I messed with the settings and it turned into a baffle noise from the subs and sounded like chit. Now with my new TC9, im getting the same issue. It is a brand new sub though, so maybe im just not patient and it needs to be broken in. The gain is not even 50% up and at high volumes on the head unit, it sort of baffles. It sounds good on some songs, but song with short bass sounds like chit. Anyone know the problem here? Thanks alot, rob.

the sub does not sound clear.. it sort of sounds like 6x9's hitting hard, to hard to sound anywhat good. Get what im saying?

more info.. sub is 1000w rms, so the sub is not getting over powered by any means. Its powered by a nine.1 (1200@1ohm). Its a quad 2 ohm vc config, so its wired down to 2 ohms producing 800-900watts. Box was custom built to recommended specs at 2.5cu ft at 33hz.

it has to be something with my amp or deck.. cause I ran different subs and boxes and it still makes the same noise. What do you mean whats it crossed over at?

You mentioned on short or quick bass sounds it sounds bad. When the song is supposed to "thump", does the subwoofer let out a "boom" or sound muffled instead? I have experienced this problem before if so.

You may need to adjust your equalizer (HU, amp, processor, etc), your crossover settings (HU, amp, processor, etc), or it may be issues with poor FR due to box aiming. (cancellation and such)

I have owned subwoofers with poor top end extension and wouldn't "thump" at all, and as such they relied heavily on the midbass drivers to pick up the slack. I doubt that's the issue here but it's always a possibility I suppose.

Its a muffled sound and its really making me ****en mad.. It sounds like complete chit on some songs, but then amazingly loud on other songs. IDK what to do, I tried everything even resetting my HU and all that.

i'm not entirely sure whats going on, but if you can, switch amps. that way you can eliminate one thing at a time. you already tried different subs, so just keep going down the line. might be something small like your RCA cables. just keep changing things with your friends systems and see if you can get results.

Like I mentioned earlier, check all processor settings. Xovers, EQs, bass boosts, loudness button, etc. What I recommend you do is defeat all EQs and Xovers, and start from scratch setting your gain controls, Xover, and EQs.

You stated that above 50% HU volume the subwoofer begins performing poorly. Are you certain that your amplifier gain controls are set properly? Did you set them with a DMM or by ear. Test amplifier output voltage with a DMM to get an idea of how much power it is producing at 50% HU volume. That could be a problem.

Report back with your findings.

EDIT: I just saw your other thread where you have the subwoofer mounted in a vented box. Someone asked you about port noise. Do you think that the sound that you are hearing at higher volume levels is port noise? It is very possible, as your port looks a little on the skinny side. If you give us the exact dimensions and specs of the box we can check on it for you.

I know for a fact its not leaking, cause it did the same thing with my last subs and box. It doesn't sound bad when the HU is 50% up, its with the gains about 50% up. I read somewhere that TC9's sound like complete shit til they get broken in? I guess the vc's are really thick and take a while to get loose.
