Just swap it with an H22 or a B20. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You'll need new rings and the cylinders honed, you could probably have it done by someone for a couple hundred bucks.

Um... are the cylinder walls horrible scored? Is there damage to the ring lands?

Maybe I'm missing something here but why don't you just tear it down, send out the block for some honing and put some new rings in? Total cost is probably under $100 bucks, well under that if you hone yourself. You're mechanically inclined right, or were you joking?

i havent looked at the cylinder walls, but after further review, the pistons might not be the problem and just a blown headgasket.

and i know quite a bit about mechanics yes.

if it is the rings you should get new everything, pistons rings rods bearings etc. and completely overhaul the engine so you wont ever have to do it again.

and how did the rings in a 95 get bad? my moms 88 corrola doesnt even need new rings yet.

i might have to buy a new block, but money is tight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
new blocks are fn expensive... we had to buy 1 for our grand cherokee about 3 weeks ago and that fuc*er was $1850. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

New blocks usually arent the solution, as you still have to buy rings and bearings and such. Have you done a compression test? If the rings are bad, chances are you can buy new rings and worst case scenario, you need to ahve the block bored. In which case it is still useable. Im rebuilding my entire motor from top to bottom re-using only the crank, pistons and rods, and the head (which is being rebuilt at a machine shop) for under a grand. The D16 is a simple motor..

what are your symptoms?

if the rings are worn, the engine would still run, and fire fine, but you'd have a shit ton of smoke

if it's misfiring, or you have no compression, do a wet compression test

if you still don't have compression, the problem is in your head

those engines are put together like a burger king toy, you could pop the head off in an afternoon, take it to a machine shop and have the valve seats checked, and put a new gasket on. honda headbolts are even reuseable, doesn't get any easier

just make sure the engine's at tdc when you pull the head off, leave a screwdriver in your crank, or mark it with a sharpee, the cam has a line on it to line up, so that's not a problem, besides, those sohc honda engines aren't interference anyways, you wont break anything if you're off by a degree or two, and then you can do a timing check once the engine's running

get crackin, johnny walker
