Hrm, I bought a refurb z1000 on ebay and after 1 day the caps all melted inside. So I sent it back and the guy was nice enough to send me another. I figured "well, maybe it was my fault and my gains were too high, i'll use the methods to set the gain on CA.com" so I downloaded the test track, and the voltage I needed was actually at a higher gain setting than I had it on when the 1st amp toasted. So I set it a full 4 volts lower. One week later, the 2nd amp craps out, same problem. Capacitors leaked all over the place inside, and I noticed the right heatsink was 985723987523987 degrees while the other was ice cold. Everything is wired correctly. I had it check, double checked by friends, and triple checked by a couple of professional installers. The subwoofers were Kicker Comp 10s [not crazy by any means] wired to 2 ohm [amplifier is 400@2 ohm stable mono]. The guy on ebay refuses to talk to me so now I'm stuck with the amp. Anyways, could this just be bad refurbs, or could my head unit be sending clipped signals to the amplifier and toasting it? The head unit is a Pioneer DEH-6400. I dont want to buy another amp and have it get fried too, these things aren't cheap. Thanks for your help.
