backed or non-backed carpet... That is the question

The type of carpet you use depends on a few things. One main thing being your ability to wrap and seem carpet. Different methods of "seeming" or actually hiding them in some cases, will require different types of material.

I seeeee... Well I have a super simple box to cover. No crazy curves or fiberglass, just 90 degree wood angles. And I was going to use this method:

In the video the guy suggests avoiding non-backed carpet at all costs, however, bcae1.com suggest to avoid rubber backed carpet. I'm definitely confused lol

I like backed. The stuff I use has some kind of backing that is clear, almost like one side of it is sprayed at the factory with some kind of glue and let dry.

I dont like the thick rubber backings.

That's a pretty **** box you got there! I might try that next time. Unfortunately, I've already built mine

Haha really? You can't say S-E-X-Y?

you could always add the lip to it to be just like his by cutting 1/2" strips of MDF and gluing them onto the edge of the enclosure.

I use non backed, and I buy it by the 50 yard roll.

1/4" inset makes it easier to carpet for sure. You can also rabbit cut the sides to hide the seem in there. I find that they are all a bit easy once you do which ever method a few times. The method in the video works great if you have basic carpet. If you get any colored carpet then forget it, it won't work like that.
