Back in the hobby....hoping for some help?

Hello everyone

I used to be big time into car stereo comp back in the early 90's. Spent some time on the IASCA circuit. Ton's of fun. Ton's of money. Had spent about 10k on my last comp system. ID compression drivers, Alpine midbass's in the kicks, one Alpine 10", Alpine 6 channel, Phoenix Gold crossover and 2 Alpine parametric EQ's.

Anyways, the family vehicle now is a 2007 Dodge Nitro. I want to install a factory looking system, stock locations, stock HU.

I want to do a DIY front stage. The doors can fit about a 7" and the dash is a 3.5." Research can be difficult without actually hearing some of these speakers installed and also properly tuned.

What I have been considering, but open to options and critic, are Peerless HDS 1" looking to crossover at about 1500hz. Also a USHER 8945P, playing midrange, midbass in the front doors, and the same in the rear doors for solely midbass. Haven't decided on whether I'll used passive or active crossovers.

Those drivers are talked about there. A very informative, helpful sight.

The Usher is well reviewed, but not popular due to price. Not that it's that expensive, but it seems $75.00 per driver is about the cutoff for most people in DIY, and the next step is about double. It is said to be a great midbass performer, with decent midrange.

Anyway, take a look around there. It's a sight dedicated to what you're looking to do.
