and thats what I can remember on the top of my head...

experience and technical knowledge are both required for success. That's why we have both carpenters and engineers. However, the point of the discussion that you were on was technical, and compared to thadman, you don't know much of anything when it comes to audio, especially as it pertains to SQ, which is 99% of home audio. You can't argue klippel measurements by saying the person who took them can't build a box, lol.
two personalities //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif you were thadman //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

how did you come up with the 99% figure for sq for ht?

Ht I see very very few people in the DIY sections using dayton but I see tons of them using sound splinter,tc sounds. So I guess we are all wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

very few people using dayton, seriously, what forums do you go on? Dayton drivers are very popular, among the best drivers in their price range, much more common than SS. The only forum I can think of where that might change is this one, where most people are 16 years old and Car audio bassheads at heart.

For the 99% figure I am simply referring to the fact that most 150,000 ht setups aren't using fartboxes measuring using a termlab to see what they hit in the corner of the room, with the windows down, lol.

For brands I have experience with

seas

ID

Adire

Ascendant audio

Peerless

dayton

JL

I've messed with other stuff, but not enough to have a strong opinon on the gear either way.

Franky I don't switch brands alot. I use my techical knowledge to allow me to figure out what drivers will fit my application the best. THEN I use my practical knowledge to hit my inteneded targets. I don't have to follow bandwagons and listen to hearsay about what "knocks" It's all in the install, but even the best system will **** if it's designed wrong.

Yep my setup has a fart box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif:laugh:

Wasn't implying your was. I was simply stating SPL setups in the home arent' that common. At least for those who are actually into home audio.

Yes I know most dont use that but what I have learned from dbdrag It helped me build a box and get awesome performance out of it...

Here is the FR graph it has no smoothing applied or any type of eq with it measured from listining position indoors.

yikes here is the fr of my def tech tower subs... bad bad performance in the low end...

and here is the rest of the response for the system...

ScreenHunter_051.jpg

That looks absolutely horrid...
+/- nearly 7db in some cases... and -3db at only ~15kHz

Wow.

No eq, at listening position //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif just room treatment. plus I am not saying the def techs have awesome FR but the tc sure does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My TC does too...
1.2sealed, downfiring. RL-I12. Bash500watt plate amp.

Yes about a 50-80 spl setups... placed 7th at world finals in street c
Who gives a **** about 7th place, honestly. There is a big difference between the Top 1-3 placings and everyone else, anyone under 3rd (first or second really in my book) is an also ran and needs to step the level of their game up significantly. There is a huge difference between 7th and being CLOSE to the top of any national level game.

1.5 db or so difference between us and first place and when we got home from finals we put the subs in a box we had home and gained over 1 db... Now if we had sent in the subs 2 weeks earlier things might have been different but we did hit a show later and did do the higher number.

Some classes have a big spread from 1st to 8th and some have tenths of a difference..street b that year only had a .6 db difference from 1st to 8th place...

Oh yah and in the second round we went againts david alfaro who was only .1 down from the champion. He did a 156.7 againts us but lost in the final round with a 156.6 vs a 156.7 we did a 155.2 if I remember right in the losing round with him.

Sure brings back some memories... I remember chilling at brad firgards shop the day before finals watching the man work hard to gain dbs even snapped a couple of pictures of his box and some of the world champs box (greg perchal). It is just crazy the dedication and work dbdraggers like them put into the setups.

Oh wait looks like he/we broke a world record in iasca back in 05 with a 157.3 dunno if it ever got updated though...He was asking me earlier this year if he should compete again maybe next year we will start something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif He still has the crx so who knows what we may do next year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
