WHATS A HOME THEATER?
Ok just so you can see how bad b&w rips you off....

Lets compare an svs $500 sub to a $1500 b&w sub

SVS HARMONIC DISTORTION

Now lets see some points

SVS test results

1.SVS has a way flatter response

2.SVS has an output of 95db at 20 hertz

3.SVS has an output of 102 db at 30 hertz

4.SVS total harmonic distortion is below 10% at 95 db 20 hertz

5.SVS total harmonic distortion is below 10% at anything above 30 hertz and full tilt

B&W test results

1.B&W has a terrible frequency response

3.B&W has an output of 83db at 20 hertz

4.B&w has an output of 90 db at 30 hertz

5.B&W total harmonic distortion is below 10% at 50 hertz and 100 db

6.B&w total harmonic distortion is off the scales (30+thd) from 95 db and anything below 30 hertz

7.B&w total harmonic distortion is off the scales at 20 hertz and 90db.

Here is some comments on the B&W..

Why? Can't stop laughing?
Russell

Good grief I never saw the pricetag until you said it!!! I would have guessed $100 USD maximum for the sub!
Guys, come on, what can you expect from such a tiny sub. I think this one has been called very "musical" and so on, guess high amounts of THD still qualify for musicality :rofl2:And isn't this the definition of "high-end", a low bang-for-buck-ratio

You are really an idiot... /yourself now...

I am serious do it... You will be doing us all a favor...

In case you are too stupid to figure out how to kill yourself and have chosen to stay alive you might want to think about this.

SPEAKERS SOUND DIFFERENT!!!!!!!

But you can't hear it can you?

Look at it like this, if I am going to buy a subwoofer for my 703, or hell if I had 800D, I am going to want to buy something that blends perfectly with out coloration. I honestly don't care about if one sub does 5db louder at 13Hz, do you realize how little program is at 13 Hz? Wouldn't you rather have a sub that sounds like your towers at 35+ Hz? I know I would. Plus a B&W subwoofer is NOT made as you think of a subwoofer. It is made for low end extension not for low end replacement...

So, if it doesn't get loud it must be a rip off right? WRONG! A system should sound coherent from the lowest note to the highest high. I agree that if you are looking for output then you should probably look elsewhere than B&W for subwoofers but if you are looking for the most fidelity and you have B&W speakers then there is really no other choice. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Get a clue before you post...

Just so you know, the response of the B&W is like that because of the huge ammount of room gain you'll get below 30-40hz if it is placed near a wall or corner....... which 90% of their customers would be likely to do.

NO WAIZZZ!!!

SO, does that mean when you put the other one near the wall the FR goes wild??????????!?!?!?!??!

It sure doesnt with mine...and even then thats why their is eqs....

and even then the thd is off the charts for the b&w

I guess if you like distortion buy a b&w sub and if you like weak 40 hertz sub bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

SPEAKERS SOUND DIFFERENT!!!!!!!
they sure do when they are all distorted like that b&w sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Ya you are right... not much down that low but their is allot of material in the 20-30 hertz range and even their it fails....

Output isnt the only thing that should matter but if you got a flat fr and low thd and high ouput then another sub is missing some of those then you know which one is the better value, but some people just like to throw money away or else bose would be out of business...

So pretty much if you dont have b&w speakers dont buy the subs right?

So why didn't you buy b&w subwoofer? by your sense matching it with a martin logan makes no sense //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Ok...

I don't use my subwoofer for anything but movies... When I purchased my ML subwoofer I got it to match some OLD DM330i B&W speakers.

That is why I have the ML... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Nice try asshat...

But, if I was to buy a subwoofer it would either be the ASW825 or a REL... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Also, like I said the PV1 is not a good sub by any means. It is the bottom line of B&W equipment and there has been word that they are going to stop making that model. Second of all, those measurements were probably taken at full power and everyone knows THD is higher when the driver is being run harder...

It was taken at different power levels... If I am reading it correct 1/3 power 1/2 power and full tilt.

All the test it has more then 20% thd from 30 hertz down.

Maybe ikka will do some more subwoofer tests soon, I know he is testing the tc sounds lms5400 but kind of useless now, since they wont be made anymore
