AVIC-N2 brake workaround

Wait, your navigation won't work without the parking break on? Or is it he DVD side.

This year Pioneer has made it impossible to work around the DVD side. It's actually tied directly to one of the navigation gyros so it knows when you're moving.... But the navigation should work all the time.

Make sense?

well i cant operate the nav system, it works fine but when i want to input a new address it would lock all the options until u apply the hand brake.

Not too sure about the AVIC-N2 but I have the AVIC-N1 and I have full functionality without using the hand break.

The reason the dvd will work with the hand break on is because they have the head unit look for a ground through the hand break. When the hand break is put on it makes a ground. When the hand break is released the ground is removed.

If you permanently ground that wire, it will always look like the hand break is on. At least that is how it worked on my install.

Why would pioneer do something like that? I can see it will get alot of safety groups off their back, but it will no doubt hurt their sales. I bet atleast half their market wants the unit to be able to play DVDs when driving.

Theres gotta be a way to lock the gyro up somehow...

i dont see why they care so much. all the big stores that sell it always have to install it the right way and not bypass anything because they are all scared of being sued like BB/CC/GG/fry's.......

smaller shops dont care as much because if someone sued them it would be a waste of money on lawers.

it is at the discretion of the customer most of the time if they want to be able to bypass it anyways.

pioneer just kind shot them selves in the foot this time.

I own the Pioneer Avic-N2, I'm thinking that they must have had a lot of money kicked back to them by the goverment to be the first ones in the industy to have so many limitations on the unit while driving and no ways to get around it. When I first go the unit I permanetly gounded my parking brake wire, to try to see if this will enable me to watch dvds or to enter an address or enter any commands into the unit while your moving, but it was useless since the unit gets it readings off of the gyro. I hope someone finds a way to fix this. Allthough the unit looks amazing and the vehicle dynamics portion of it is awesome with acceleration g force andulare velocity tild speedo everything is cool, but not being able to enter in commands into the navi menu is just dumn.

I have the N2 also and I usually enter my destination before I leave anyways. If it's a destination you use alot then save it and you just have to select it while driving with the DVD in. I don't really see it as a big deal seeing as I don't usually change destinations in the middle of a trip and if I do I just pull over for 2 min and I'm ready to go again. Pioneer doesn't want you staring at the screen typing in addresses while doing 75mph down the highway.

Hey guys im new here to Caraudio.com forum. I have the AVIC-N2 and I purchased the steering remote and that allows you to control some functions of the navigation with voice recognition. If you put all your favorite destinations in your address book, by pressing a button on the remote you can control the navigation by speaking to the unit. That same remote can control other various settings for am/fm, xm, dvd, m-cd via hard button on the remote or by simply speaking.

For those of you that are trying to watch a dvd while driving, well its not possible just like that. There is a way to watch dvd's by plugging an RCA wire from the tv out of the brain to the camera input of the brain and activate the rear view camera in the menu and thats it! BUT BECAREFUL AND DONT KILL ANYONE WHILE WATCHING A MOVIE!!! I dont want to be held responsible if anyone gets hurt by this method. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!

drive with the brake on, but ull probably need a supercharger and some nos, or just cut the brake lines.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

just playin (as u can see), seemed like an interesting topic to give my opinion on.
