avic n-1 nav problems

I bought a sweet custom expedition last may and the guy left an avi-n1 nav/dvd/cd unit in it which i thought he was nuts for. well, maybe now i realize why he did it?

the gps function has actually gotten me lost. i never rely on it cuz it typically will take me out of the way on backroads sometimes instead of highways (and yes it's set on the fastest route). and it's not uncommon for it to just place me on roads that i'm not even on (but they are close by). you would think this is happening from a weak signal but it's not. the gps just has a mind of it's own... and it likes to mess with me!

what's up with it? is it just junk?? other than the gps functions it's a great unit. very nice screen quality and good sound quality. but the gps function is what i was most looking forward to.

i also checked out pioneers sight but they didn't have any upgrades for the software. only a GPS map update for $275. why should you have to pay for an update ($275) for a head unit that already costs $2,000!?!?!?

the nav CDs i have are CNDV-40M

any help would really be appreciated.

hmm.. check all the settings for the route. there is a setting for back roads, no tolls, no highways ect... i will say that i love the navi on the avicn1 .. i made it from cali to florida to arizona and back home without getting lost once, or opening a single map.

settings are all correct. the nav just flat out sucks. it's often tried to take me on roads that no longer exist (not have they for years) and often wonders off track. i do a lot of city driving and it often will try to take me on local roads when the highway could cut driving down by a LOT. it's to the point where i can't rely on it to get me where i need to go via the quickest route.

i was hoping for some kind of an update. i'm hoping it's just old software?

Hmm that sucks that it isnt working, maybee the speed sensor wire is messed up, when you go into settings then hardware info whats the status for gps signal and peed sensore signal at?

I have the N-2 and one time was totally wasted coming home from this bar about 30 miles from my house In my car I had this hot chick that my buddy hooked me up with, but I had no idea where I was soo wasted, but I knew if I didnt have the navi I would have never mede it home and get this girl to bed lol all I did was press GO HOME, and oh yeah step by step directions

Then N-2 gets you laid!!
