avi video playing?

How do I play videos that I download from Limewire(music videos ) that have the file extension .avi? When it goes into WMP, it gives me an error message saying it can't play the codec or some dumb shit like that. Anyone know how I can fix this so I can support and play these files?

or get a program called Video Lan player, search it up. It pretty much plays any format u can find online and doesn't install any codecs, the codecs are built into the program itself. Plus if u have a network setup u can make like a server movie player streaming videos on a certain IP that all ur computers can connect to and watch the same movie on all the computers at the same time. It's built into the program, u start the program, goto File/Wizard, than stream to network, and put in the IP/port u want to stream thro, than on other computers that are on the same network, goto Open network connectiion, type in the IP and port. Bam it starts streaming, kind of like that setup u see all the fancy places with a buncha TV's hooked up together. Cept ur doing it with computers. It's really nice, I use it to watch movies on my TV hooked up to my laptop while streaming the movie from my computer in my room. It's really only useful if u have 2+ more computers ur streaming to tho.
