aux input static

Does it happen instantly even without any sound being played through it, or does the static and buzzing vary with the sound the ps2 is trying to output? It could be that the aux-in is looking for a much much quieter signal and is being clipped to heck...my empeg riocar on my old cd8454 would clip the aux-in at anything above -12db on the volume. My old shitty mp3 player with no volume control was horrifically distorted when going through my CD8051's aux-in, until i got an in-line attenuator and cut the signal strength in HALF. My cd7000 has aux-in sensitivity, though...so with that set to 'low', i can set my empeg's output vol to 0db and it works, unclipped. If i were you, i'd try an in-line attenuator (15$ at my local car audio shop..labelled the 'bass nob'...rca in and out, nob to adjust attenuation) and try cutting the signal way way down, and see if the buzzing/static goes away. Assuming of course that the static/buzzing is related to output from the ps2 and not just totally random or happening only when you jerk the cable around or some such.

When i hooked up my portable dvd player to my aux in, I had a nasty static sound too. It turned out that my power inverter was the culprit. When i let the dvd player play off battery power, I had zero static.
