Aux In vs iPod ready units

I'm looking to buy a stereo, and the main feature I'm interested in being able to play my iPod in my car. I've realized that some units offer strictly Aux in slots that you can plug your iPod into, while others allow you connect your iPod differently (I guess the iPod info is displayed on the screen?). Which of these is better for using an mp3 player with. From what I've seen, the ones that are made specifically for iPods don't allow you to control using your iPod once you plug it in. It seems to me like it would be easier to control using the iPod, than the stereo controls. Also, I don't know much about car stereos, so any suggestions as to brands would be much appreciated! Also, I don't want to lose the stereo controls on my steering wheel, and from what I've heard it's inevitable that I will lose the stereo info (radio station) on my HUD.

Anything Premier from Pioneer is a dang good HU. They have an AUX input, and you can buy an IPOD adapter to control your IPOD with your HU. So then you can change your songs and what not like you would a CD, but with the songs on you IPOD. It also sends all the ID tags and displays it on your HU as well. In my opinion, the IPOD adapters would be better.

Basiclly aux input lets you connect the Ipod Via the headphone jack and you will control the volume off the deck and use the ipod to navigate songs etc. On and Ipod ready deck youll buy a seperate adapter that will plug the ipod in via the docking port on the bottom, this will alow you to toss the ipod in the glove box and use the deck to navigate through the songs and control the volume as well as charge the ipod.

My cousin got the Ipod Interface thing for his alpine HU, and it absolutely sucks. It does show the stuff on the HU, but its really really complicated to navigate through all the artists and stuff. You would pretty much have to stick to your playlists that you already have for it to be fairly simple. However, it is nice to use the remote to change through songs and stuff.
