audioque recones not matching?

you sturrin at me brah?
i picked up a set of d1 recones for my audioque hdc3 18s, and when i did the first one, i used all but one of the shims they sent me. it was tight enough, i couldnt get the last one in. the cooling holes in the recone were also showing above the magnet's gap.

when i went to do the other one today, i put in all the of shims and think i still have room to spare. this was also the sub that had the voice coil unwind inside of it and i kept playing it that way for a week or two, is it possible i took some material off inside the magnet? i didnt notice any metal shavings when i cleaned the gap out, or notice any nasty gouges.

should i just continue with this sub using index cards to fill in the rest of the gap? is it no big deal the location of the cooling holes on the recone?

i'm uploading a video ATM showing the coil movement i have with the audioque shims in.

i doubt it.

could u get a caliper on these motors?

oh, forgot to mention in the first post, although i did in the video.

the cooling holes in the second sub i'm reconing sit almost complely inside the gap as the recone sits in the motor. maybe 3/4" lower than it does on the one i did yesterday. you can't see the holes through the shims in the video, but they're completely exposed, maybe 1/4 inch above the gap.

hope it works out for ya. i hate recones. :|
i like getting my hands dirty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

hoping the video turns out well on youtube, using a new camera for the first time.

heres the youtube link, it may take a couple minutes to process. make sure to hit the hd button.

i dont think i could really pick up anything with a camera, it settles to center. as far as i can tell it will work fine, its just that the gap is either slightly larger or the recone is slightly smaller.

either way, it will work fine as long as everything is aligned, right?

i ended up using 4 index cards, evenly spaced, plus all of the shims they sent me. it feels/looks good now though.

any thoughts on the cooling holes being in different places? and there is no problem with aligning the coils/gluing the spider, and glueing the surround at different times, right? even if i remove the shims, everything should be located correctly as long as i'm not pulling the surround off to one side?

and did i pronounce audioque correctly in the video? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I reconed an AQ hd3 a couple of weeks ago and just used the plastic shims they sent with the recone kit. I found it funny that there was so much play even with the shims in place but I said "fuck it" and reconed it like that. takes 4kw like a champ so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

That pic is trippy as fuck.

can anyone confirm that i pronounce audioque correctly so i dont look like an ******* everytime i tell someone what i'm running? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

and there is no problem with glueing the spiders and surrounds seperately right? even if i remove the shims before glueing the surround?

i only have enough shims to do these one at a time. i dont like using index cards unless i have to, easier to get the plastic shims they send in there.
