so lately my sub has been getting stinky....well let me rephrase that! when i smell the port area the air is like warmer and has a....kinda well i guess hott smell. now it doesnt smell like my kicker L7 did when i was beating it hard but its kind similar....so my question is: its in a 2.5cubed box at 37hertz before driver and port displacemnt and being ran off a elemental design nine.1 amp at 1ohms. i never turn it up to the point that it stops getting louder so if i had to guess id say if i am clipping it cant be much (i may be wrong) like at 52 its loud but i then go to 60 and its a ton louder. well you get what im saying.....

is it possible there is like left over saw dust thats giving off the smell or some kind of glue thats heating up on the sub or the box? all info is nice please

cliffs: box has some kind of smell at port when i beat on it for like 10 minutes. 1200watts rms going to it. could it just be the box smelling?

well i just bought the young jeezy cd and have been playing the "i put on" song a lot i guess...but i dont know the tones of tat song
musical shouldn't really kill them, and 1200w to that sub should be fine. I assume it is a copper not aluminium. Do you hear any sounds like it is losing control? if not it must just be thermal.

playing below tuning at full tilt for extended periods of time and probably clipping the signal. Both will make a sub get stinky.

I ran 3k to each of my copper HDC's with no problems and never got them stinky...

no theres no weird sounds. i broke them in for 10 straight hours on low to moderate volumes when i first got it.

well is that song too low for my box tunning? alot of people on here and audioque told me 36--38hertz was ideal for daily...so what am i doing wrong? bigger amp is needed so at the level im playing it the amp wont send a clipped signal or what? i kinda dont understand the clipping crap 100%

Maybe just the glue getting warm.

Youll know when you smell a sub being beaten to death.

If you have to go by the port too smell it, prolly nothing to worry about.

If you smell a wayyyy stronger smell from the front seat, may need to turn the gain down a bit.

But i doubt it, i ran a 500.1 @ 1ohm to one of my HDCs, and honestly i never smelled it......even with 4 and 2 500.1s @ .5 i still never smelled them at full tilt.

Those were alum coils though

yeah i got the copper ones thinking i wouldnt notice any difference... :-( i guess i will just turn down the gain again. but if it is glue warming up or melting how long do i have til that becomes a problem?
