Audioque HDC 3 15'' Question

I have an Audioque HDC 3 15'' woofer. I have a Sundown Sae 1200D amplifier putting power to it. I bought this woofer used and blew it in about 3 days, and then I re coned it and am now bumpin again. I will still sometimes smell something resembling coils burning? I emailed AQ and they said it was clipping...and then I emailed Jacob Fuller from sundown and he said it wasn't clipping because my gains are set to under half and there is no woofer distortion. I still smell it every so often, and sometimes it is stronger then others. Jacob said he thinks the coils are just getting extra warm because the woofer draws a lot of power and im in Georgia so the outside temperature effects it. After playing the dustcap is pretty warm as well.

My electrical isn't very good. I'm running a stock battery, and haven't switched over to the big 3 yet. My lights dim when I Bump at a volume of even 25 and my head unit peaks at 35.

Would upgrading to the big 3 completely eliminate this issue im having?

I'm not sure what to think of it all.

Help please!

You are probably clipping that amp. Without an osciloscope (or at least a DMM) you really don't know what's going on. I promise you won't "hear" clipping until you're well into dangerous levels.

Sufficed to say if your sub is smelling funny that means it's time to turn things down.

Assuming that sub can actually handle 1200W continuous power upgrading your electrical system will help your amp put out more power without clipping.

I've ran an RD1750.1 to that same sub for a whole day and it didnt even get warm or stink at all and i had stock electrical just 1/0 wiring and never dipped under 13 volts unless i had it at full tilt for more then 20 minutes

I dont understand your point?

Should I not be worried? Lol. Or is this amp not very safe with this woofer?

my point is that i was giving that same sub way more power that was clean and it took it like a champ if its smoking or smelling weird maybe the power is clipped and you need to either turn the gain down or beef up your electrical system

Beef up your electrical. Your amp is probably seeing very low voltage which results in clipping. Turn things down until your electrical is good enough to keep up.
Beat you to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

the box is the dimensions AQ gave me for that woofer.

I noticed it really only smells when i play a certain song...and i Wonder if that song has bass boost on it.

I'm going to upgrade my electrical this week and see if it fixes it.
