So I just put a fresh recone and dropped it into my car 2 days ago and I must say, the low end pwns my Type-R's. I had the R's tuned to 37hz and I have this sub at 37hz also. The HD is a unique sub, it's designed to play well below tuning frequency and that's exactly what it does. In my case, I've tuned too low. I peak at freaking 32hz!!! Now I know why DJ recommends tuning to 40hz and I agree, you really should because there is somewhat of a dropoff around the 40-50hz region. This sub has better SQ IMO than the R's. They really kicked me in the chest and I was like WHOA! Nice and tight, but they have a steep rolloff. Oh well, that will be solved soon.
I've only had a chance to do limited testing. So far, with the same Jeezy song, I've managed a shitty 140.5 at the headrest illegal. I need more port area since there's a little port noise and much higher tuning. I'm going to add another flare tomorrow. Oh yeah, I glued the dustcap on wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I had to sand down my cutout hole, and I did it just enough so that the 4 spokes would have enough room to fit. Well, I glued the dustcap on the wrong way and now it's crooked. Oh well, it looks cool
I am quite impressed with this sub though and I think it has potential. The only thing is, I wall socketed' it before I put the new recone on and I can still smell it when it plays, especially when it plays low and moves a lot of air. I can't freakin tell if I'm burning the coils or if it's just the old stench from the wall socket. It's getting about 1700-1800w, hooked up to the amp in my sig at .75ohms.
