AudioPoop 1800 question

As much as I tried to talk my buddy out of it, he just bought a new one of these the other day anyways. He wants to run 4ga on a 120amp ANL and I think he should run 1/0. The amp has 4ga inputs on it but we all know you can buy 1/0 to 4ga reducers on the cheap. He thinks he will fry the amp by running 1/0 to it with a 200amp fuse. Does anybody have one of these or some knowledge of these that can chime in on if he could run it on 1/0 cable?

You can't use reducers cause the stupid terminals are slanted. For my 1500 I just took some 1/0 and chopped down the wire so it would fit. I think tool maker was working on some slanted reducers.

i told him that if worst comes to worst, get a power cell (which he plans to) and run the 1/0 to that and from there run 4ga to the amp.
I think what I ended up doing was do a run of 1/0 to the back and then like a foot before it use a distro to bring it down to 4g. He's gonna be pulling no where near enough current to cause any problems on a run of 4g thats a foot long

Either way, you are just introducing 4 gauge to the amp. Of course a rear batt or something would help power wise, but the bigger wire is for resistance. If its really a big deal, hit up Toolmaker like Roux said and see if he has any in stock.

But do you think that running bigger power and ground to that amp will fry it on a 200amp fuse? I honestly don't think it will but he is terrified about trying it.

Keep in mind that the APs don't have any onboard fusing. I'm not sure what they're supposed to be fused at (typically come with fuses and fuse holders) and not sure ifthe possibility of 200A is going to fry it, but I'd rather safe. Typically we fuse only for the wire, with AP, we fuse for the wire and amp.

I would not run the 200a fuse. The AP manual calls for 120a fusing on the !800. And yes, as stated above, if it is a NIB AP, the fuse and in-line fuse holder should have been included.
It does call for 120 and came with the 120 anl fuse holder and fuse. I just don't see how that amp is rated at 1800W x1 @ 1ohm with a 4ga run. I know some 1k rms amps that don't even take 4ga

To go from the front of a vehicle to the back is a good stretch for 4ga on that amp due to wire resistance..I would still use the 120 fusing but maybe run 2 ga back to a distro. and use a minimal run of 4 ga, like >2 ft, the longer the run, the more resistance as u know....hmm...lol that's a good one, mebbe smack u buddy on the head with that amp?
