Audio System on a Budget

I have a 2002 Explorer. I mostly listen to classic rock (as you can tell my by username). How much would I need to spend to get a half decent sound system ( or at least an upgrade from the stock stereo.) I was thinking about spending $300 (or hopefully) less. Any input would be greatly appreciated guys.

P.S: I would like something that has some sort of form of Ipod Connectivity. Not a must but just a wish

Get a lightly used cd player or a new one around 100-150 , get some $10 6.5 peerless mids from parts-express.com and some tweets and two capacitors. wire the mids to rear channels and tweets to front that will give you a better sound than stock, then you have about 100 -150 left over for sub and amp and box which isnt much. you can also run the fronts and subs off a 4 channel and use the 4 channel for speakers when you upgrade to a seperate sub amp. Idk if you were just wanting a cd player or everything including sub but if you get a sub the box is the most important part so build your own box and you can spend 1/4 the amount on sub and amp and get louder/better sound!

It just seems most of the setups are for people that are bass hungry. Which isn't what im lookin for
You don't need subs if you don't want any. You could just get a nice comp set, an amp to power them, and a used HU. Or just get some 6.5's. There's a lot of different things you can do. That's why I suggested you look around. Search "budget system" a lot of people have asked about this topic. And browse the Speaker section and general section. There's a lot of useful info here if you don't mind browsing for a while //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So can you recommend anything. A setup for 300 (im willing to go used) that has pristine and clear mid's that's not thin but also has some bass punch but NEVER booming. Thanks all you guys help is very appreciated.

You're going to have a tough time finding a decent cd player, an amplifier, and a pair of components for $300.

If you don't care to buy used, take a look in the classifieds. If you see anything you like that fits your budget, link it here.
