ps im wasted

looks ok to me for $260. no way you coulda dont that in half an hour.your only going to tear that cloth if your really careless, i bet it never gets torn.
leave it.
he was quote that price for using fiberglass and leather, which the shop didnt deliver him. so they should have a price break for him.

yeah it looks ok but its not what he paid for period.

I don't think it looks bad at all. I agree it's not as durable as the 'glass and leather would be. I also agree that you should go back and talk to them about it. If you didn't get what you asked for and was promised they should work with you to make it right. I definately wouldn't go about it the way some of the kids on here are suggesting. If you go into the shop yelling and screaming, acting like an @sshole you probably won't get taken care of the way you want. Go in there and and explain what you asked for, what you expect, and make them do it right. Even though you're not driving an Enzo they should still want to protect thier good reputation and make it right. Good luck.

i honestly think it looks ok, if you paid for one thing and got something else that is a differant story. See if they will give you more of a discount or have them fix it. That is more like a $150 job not a $260 or $300 job. If the shop is really hi end they may want to keep a good reputation and take care of you.

I'm kind of pissed right now and not sure what to do. I'd love to hear your take on this.
There is a real high end audio shop in my area, does really nice custom work on cars ranging from low end up to Ferrari Enzo's and Aston Martins. They have a VERY good reputation, online and locally.

As some of you know, my Focal K2P's were hitting my stock door panel in my 2006 Ford Escape. I went in to talk to them and described what I wanted quite well. I told them to cut out the door grill which is a weird shape, fill it in with fiberglass wrapped in black leather, and cut out a spot in the middle for the stock Focal speaker grill. They quoted me $300. I agreed.

Today, I go to pick up my car and it's not quite what I expected. They didn't use fiberglass at all, or leather (which I was specifically told they would). They said they "didn't have to use it". Instead, they took a peice of MDF, cut it out in the weird shape of the stock grill, bolted to the OUTSIDE of my door panel (so it's not flush), and cut a circular shape hole through both the mdf and the stock grill. They then covered that in black grill cloth. They did use the stock focal grill but it's recessed into the MDF and you can't even see it through the grill cloth.

It doesn't look bad, but it's not what I paid for! I was stupid to not get a written quote, but I had talked to him three or four times before and purchased tweeter mounts so I felt comfortable.

I realize I didn't have a picture to show him of what I wanted, but with custom work you shouldn't need one as no one has done this before!

They did offer me a discount as they didn't have to use fiberglass. They charged me $260 in the end, but still, $260 for something I EASILY could have done myself in a half hour. I paid before I realized what they did.

What would you do in my situation?

Although you didn't have it in writing you still made a contractual agreement with each other. You could go to court over it.

I suggest, you simply ask for your money back, get extremely shitty that they hacked up your door, and tell them that they should be paying for a new door trim aswell.

tell them that you want all their crap removed, and your money refunded, and that you'll just fix it up yourself, seeing as they couldn't even do it right.

hell, if they didn't do it right the first time, who says they'd do it right the second?

once your money is refunded, go and do the same thing yourself, that they did, and it'll cost ya about 20 bucks... lol

I haven't gotten a chance to talk to them yet as I picked up the car at closing time and they are closed this entire holiday weekend.

Now that I've had time to think about it I'm a bit more cooled off. Still not happy though.

I'm going to drive up in our Audi A8L and tell them that if they fix up my escape I will give them some work on the A8L. I have a feeling they will make it right, they didn't seem like bad guys.

I realize that $300 may have been a low quote, but I didn't ask for cheap. I simply explained what I wanted (fiberglass and leather) and he quoted me $300. I didn't even haggle with him. I would have gladly paid more. I figured he was giving me a deal because my father was asking questions about having work done on a Quattroporte that he was thinking of buying and he wanted the business.

The way I see things is that it's squarely the shops fault - whether they low-quoted me, were too busy to fiberglass as promised, or just were lazy. They have to make it right or I will chargeback and release their names on the forums.

I have a feeling that this will be resolved amicably. If not, that's their loss.

Go back. I won't say what shop it was, but I actually found the crossovers to the rear set of components duct taped to the door panel. Needless to say, I do my own installs from here on out. If I don't know how to do it, I mess it up until I do. If they agreed to do it in leather and did it in cheap grill cloth, take it back. I personally wouldn't have left. Good luck with that situation.
