Audio gods, I need your help

I was driving down the road the other night and I noticed a thump in my sub. The volume was about 50% and the thump was like a full volume sound. I turned off the head unit and it continued doing it from time to time. It doesn't happen all the time but seems to happen more often when I go over a speed bump or hit a rough spot in the road. It started doing it more and more and I started noticing that when this happened, the voltage gauge would drop drastically. The next day, I started smelling a burt wire odor in my vehicle. I pulled over and pulled the wire from the under hood fuse block to kill the power to the amp and obviously my problem went away. My set up is a RE SE/X 12D4 sub and a Treo 750.1 SSX amp. I have 0 gauge wire from the battery and a 250 amp fuse block under the hood. I'm a little worried about this now because of the burnt smell from the other night. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

you have loose connections somewhere. check the rcas
I checked everything that's connected to the amp. I hate the thought of pulling out the head unit but will in I can't find anything else. Haven't checked the ground yet so I think I'll start there. It should probably be moved regardless because it's not in the best of locations. Is there a chance there could be something loose on the inside of the amp?

its the amp you should sell it to me so you dont have to worry about it lol jk probably ground

But seriously pm me if you want to sell the amp, i have 1 and would like another to strap them
It's a very solid amp. Wouldn't think of getting rid of it as long as it's not the problem. The only problem I've had with it is occasionally going into protect mode after listening at high volume for a while. I have it in a trailblazer at a 2ohm load in the cmpartment below the floor of the hatch. Really doesn't get enough air circulation in there so I think I'm going to have to install a couple of fans or just move it. Thanks for everyone's help and advice. I'm going to check it out a little more in depth this afternoon.

I know I'll get the third degree for this but it's grounded to the floor of the hatch area. I used a steel brush to expose the metal but it's just not as good of a ground as I'd like.

Okay, I checked everything out and it all seems satisfactory. I hooked the power wire back up and it was working fine until I turned it up. Suddenly the sub starts jumping and then pushes all the way out and sticks there. I hit the mute button and a few seconds later it went back in. Then I started smelling the burning smell again so I got closer to the port and the smell got stronger. It's now obvious that the smell is the sub. I've heard that these new "X" series from RE ****. I did have a little more than 600 going to it. The Treo is rated at 750 and I'm sure it pushes a little more than that but I thought it should be able to handle it. Guess I was wrong. Blown sub??????
