You can make your box shiny gloss black without needing to fiberglass it. You'd just need to do some 'bodywork' on it to smooth it, then paint it. The fiberglassing is what allowed him to make the irregular shapes on the baffle board however, that must be glassed.

About the only other way that i know of to get something to shine like that (mdf) is primering the shit out of it with high build primer (2-3 cans, sanded inbetween layers)...other then that..fiberglass and bondo is about the only way...

You can bondo a normal box to smooth it out, then paint it glossy like that. Ive seen it done before, it works fine.
