Audible difference between SA-12 and L7?

read someone say it's got somethin to do with the square cone being heavy in order to make up for it being a weaker structure than a circle. the added weight makes the transitions between notes sloppy? idk man, i'd take an SA cuz you can recone it easily
Nope. The outer edge of a circular woofer has the same force at every point along the diameter based on the center of the cone. A square woofer does not have the same force. The corners are weaker because of it hence the ribs in the corners of the cone and the surround on square woofers. This adds weight to the moving mass.

As mentioned before the only positive to a square woofer is you can literally save baffle space in the sense you can butt gaskets right up next to each other. You cant do that with a circle woofer without leaving a gap.

Def makes sense....

Lets not forget he 12 L7 needs a box the size of a round 15 to get loud and sound half decent. So whats the point of a L7? Round 15 will be more accurate and get louder. The guys with the 'living loud' boxes that are WAY to small think they are loud, put them on a real meter and you will see they are not loud at all. A lot like distortion sounds loud to the ear but its not on the meter.
that makes alot of sense..but is that true vice versa? Loud to the ear isnt loud to the meter...but is loud to the meter loud to the ear?

And the reason this is still going is because i actually wanted someone to take the time out to explain in DETAIL why the L7 is trash..not constantly repeat themselves over and over again to no avail...too many noobs in this world (car audio world) to expect them to take minor advice on a major subject and believe it 100% and move on with their lives. Thats the same as telling a backup QB..."aye dont throw an interception, its bad for your rating and your team" when you could say "Instead of throwing directly at the receiver, look off the coverage by the Free Safety by looking at the opposite side receiver and then throwing to the man on man receiver..that will yield less interceptions" it helps to break down in detail why not to do something as opposed to a few key points

ALL of the best subs are CIRCULAR...

Voice coils are....CIRCULAR...

Circular VC pulling Circular Cone = No EXTRA cone flex

No EXTRA cone flex = Better Linearity

Better Linearity = Cleaner Sound, Longer Lasting.

Im noob. I could be wrong. This is JUST an opinion.

SMH at all of this

The L7 will get louder both subs in there optimal enclouser, now the SQ argument should almost be thrown out the window, because neither of them are what you would call sq drivers, so they will both sound like SH1t compared to a real sq sub..

90% of daily installs the L7 and SA will preform similar and be ok for most..Anybody saying this one will be louder on the meter etc.. Need to shut up, thats a stupid argument, every install is different. I have seen ppl up there power and lose on the meter..

OP just get whichever is cheaper, build the optimal box for it, and let it wang..

Even if they arent SQ subs the SA will still sound better than the L7. Doesnt need to be a top of the line sub to want a sub that doesnt sound like a wet fart.

It will sound better is subject to install you and I both know that..L7's use to win sq titles if im not mistaken

Each and every driver/technology has different levels to which they add coloration/distortion to the music. The SA sub is by far the more technical sub when it comes to low distortion drivers out of the 2 mentioned. Sure you can say its all box dependent, however if both subs are in their optimal power range, box size, etc. the SA sub will sound better.

Those where not the l7s of today and I think mark Eldridge used the 8s with the x in the back. He could make audiopipe sound good enough to win
It just goes to show install is everything, im not sure what has changed about the L7 between now in then, but im sure its not as much as most would think..
