I think it's actually STEPdad owns AQ and stepson owns DD. And I don't believe the relationship is amiable. But whatever.

I don't know or care about the subs, but there is definitely some board sharing going on with the amps.

You can see with your own eyes every sub Blake posted earlier is different minus the basket. How about we make a thread saying every sub that uses a TI basket is the same?

As for show actual facts here is the specs of the HDC3 and 9500. I guess people are to lazy to look for themselves or they want to stay ignorant so they can justify talking ****.

As you should be able to see the cone is different.. SQ FS is 43hz, 8 layer coil, ferrite weight 340oz, motor diameter is 8.7

The DD as you can see has a pressed paper cone, EROM surround, 4 layer coil, FS of 30hz, ferrite weight 406oz, motor diameter is 9.3. The DD is also built to order and dealer only.

You don't see MSRP from all the online sale sites. All you see is selling price. Same with DD, go to a dealer and you will get the selling price. If Sundown, ect was dealer only it would be the same. And there are many $900 plus subs.

Aq changed to sq because of legal issues with audioquest. There a thread talking about it somewhere. I've owned both dd and aq. Only thing similar is the basket that most company's share, up untill couple years ago company's like sundown and skar have custom tooled there own baskets. I guarantee part configurations are different . Dj still owns soundqubed and Steve still owns digital design last I checked ...

i did enough research to know AQ doesnt put the specs of there copper coil hdc3 like you linked... but that was just from reading.. DD is definitely the better quality product and always will be as its a higher line... but is it better enough to justify DD's ridiculous pricing? i think not but... thats my opinion... we all got them... do they share parts yes they do, and when i bought my AQ amps... they came from DD.... i would run either and have ran both... only DD's that really outshined what aq is putting out is the 99z... and at their price range you could buy those two subs or 2 cheap cars... lol

When AQ first came out they did look like the DD subs with the direct leads, no one else was doing that at the time.

The baskets appear identical but that's the only similarities they share, everything else looks to be different especially the motor structure and magnet..

I would NOT call these subs identical but they do share some common parts..
