IMO if you are mainly looking for portability dont get over a 14" screen, if you want a small desktop replacement and semi portable try a 15" screen and if you wont use it out of your house/dorm go 17"

I think I'll just spring for the ASUS. They're supposed to have the 9 cell battery out next year, so that'll be nice then. Until then I'll just carry the charger.

For a total of $820 (20 for the extra gig of ram) it seems like a good lappy.

make sure that the asus comes with a single 1-gig stick of ram.

It might be 2x512 making you have to buy 2 sticks.
