A lot of people don't understand that saying something can handle 5kw "daily" doesn't mean that it's being fed a continuous 5kw for hours on end. 5kw daily means just that: daily driving conditions, not continuous thermal power handling test situations. Just like how Jacob's subs(for instance) can handle well over rated power in a daily setup. It's because he's rating them based on X amount of power, constantly, for X amount of time...and with music you're never going to get that that kind of abuse if you're using clean power. You'll get peaks with a lot of current draw and a lot of time inbetween to have the coil cool off again. Jacob is smart for rating them that way, and if you're smart you can wisely have well more than rated power on tap for basically any woofer out there. This is why people say "OMGeez, my _____ can handle twice the rated powa!" Yes, any well built sub can thermally handle twice the "rated power" when it hardly ever has to experience that but for short periods at a time. Just like how fuses can have twice the amperage flow through them for short periods of time as well.
