So, I hear that these subs can take 5k rms daily, with their 3'' 4 layer vc..... I am really highly doubting such an idea, does anybody else think them handling that much power sounds hokey?

Seriously dude? That video is only the APX, the APXX is designed to handle 30k burps as opposed to the 20k burps from the APX (which it is shown to laugh at)

The lowest daily rating I have heard of for the APX (not XX) is 3k, the highest is 6k, and the most common answer is 5k. I wish I had the experience to support either claims, but I don't //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif But I do know that I was told by an Atomic representative that it can handle 5k (the APX). If they underrate the potential for the sub on burps, than I see no reason why they would lie about the daily rms rating. They are annoying as all fuck to deal with and hard as hell to get ahold of in the first place, but they quoted me a good honest price for a recone, and told me what size box to use for it (which matched what others have said as well). They may have poor customer service, but I do believe they are honest...

Proper engineering goes a long way...I know for a fact that the Atomic engineers knew a lot more about what they were doing than we do lol

The APX/APXX 3" coil in the proper installations will handle 5k daily, they still have one of the best cooling designs out there for SPL type drivers, most of the cooling designs out there today are based off it, which is almost 30 years old now, and the motors are some of the strongest ferrite motors we have ever tested for SPL, and I have never had a problem with Randy as far as CS, I usually don't talk to Wu unless I have to.

why would you want an apxx in a 3" coil to start with when you can buy a 4" coil ? I've owned two of the 18" 4" voice coil versions and they easily took 3k on music, and 6k on burps. Oh, an atomic is known for hit and miss customer service...its no secret.

a 3'' coil design would have to have more than just great cooling to be able to handle 5k daily. Especially if the coil has only 4 layers, that just means less power it can handle. I am excited to see Troll face's apx on a true 5k for an hour, I will bring the popcorn and the lawn chairs who is gonna grab the lemonade?

it wont happen, i am willing to bet money with a 4layer 3" it wont handle 3k clamped for 10 mins. who wants to bet me....
