The Atomic does look different than the others if you look at the placement of the power and speaker connects, rca's, the row of ICU's. It looks like they switched the layout for the Sundown and RD to the other side. Just a little difference.

Well, I myself just purchased an Atomic AT3000.1....

I did a trade + $275 on my end, so about $375 invested in this thing...it's **** similar.

I will be picking up the Atomic Sunday...It better be worth it....I'd rather use Sundown 3000's, but I just don't have the $$ even for a used one.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I can compare a Sundown and the Atomic this weekend, will report the findings.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those Atomics are nice. I ran a couple a few months ago and was very pleased. Cant wait to see your results.
I've got a 250amp alt from DC Power and 2 Powermaster D3100's....so it will see proper 14v+ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm going to run it .5ohm daily...and if it dont like it....fu

It is a tough decision based on performance of the products, but I would lean towards the Sundown. And when it comes to Customer Service Sundown wins hands down, not to mention you can get a refurb, with a year warranty for $700 and it is an authorized refurb. After that long *** post SUNDOWN FTW!! I am actually thinking about getting 2 of the refurbed 3000's to power my 2 HD3 15's

If so you are in luck they are on sale:

Refurbished SAZ-3000D New Heatsink Design A-Stock - $660.00 - 3 Availible!

Refurbished SAZ-3000D New Heatsink Design B-Stock - $640.00 - 2 Availible!

Refurbished SAZ-3000D Old Heatsink Design A-Stock - $640.00 - 1 Availible!

Refurbished SAZ-3000D Old Heatsink Design B-Stock - $625.00 - 2 Availible!

I would bet the test results comparing the actual performance, in the exact same system will be nearly identical of these two amps... Only differences might be in the power supply transformers as they are built at the specific build house I am pretty sure anyway, and there could be some differences in those, but that's likely the only thing that would affect performance. I don't think the Sundown and the Atomic are from the same build house.... Seems there are at least a half dozen over there, some with direct copies of other build houses boards, just different colors etc, possibly different quality boards, but same values on all the components, and same or similar layouts... Some of the differences might cause different performance, while the other differences might cause reliability issues (like using cheap *** PCBs...). I know from lots of experience that the boards in the Sundown Audio amps are top-shelf...

To keep your test results as accurate as possible I could recommend a few things:

1. Log starting and stopping battery voltage

2. Start both amps in testing from cold... i.e. don't beat your atomic all the way over there and then test it then test the SAZ-3000D cold...

3. Warm up the subs before the test with either of the amps, but be sure the amps are around the same temperature before you start logging numbers

4. Use the same meters for all tests, in ALL the same places for each test

5. Give a charge-up period with the car running for the batteries to level off again between tests. Don't just go by what you DMM says the battery voltage is, the alternator will put out more amps to charge the batteries to maintain 14.4V if that is what they are set for... So give the actual batteries time to catch up... you could DC clamp the alternator power wire to the batts to see if it's leveled off and not "charging hard" anymore... Or just wait about 15 minutes with the car running and batteries will be leveled back off.

6. If you have availible to you a DC Clamp, please put a DC clamp on one of the battery cables going into the amps while testing and log those numbers also.

7. Set the gains properly and all other settings the same

8. Make sure either the car doors are open or closed or whatever same position through all tests.

9. Don't just pick one tone to do all tests... Test with tones, starting from right at your enclosures tuning freq and move up... KNOW your tuning frequency... If you are wired at 1 ohm and you are getting readings at what you THOUGHT was your tuning freq that indicate 2 ohms or more, move up or down from that freq till you find the lowest possible impedance and start there and go up from there...

i get where your coming from and for retail price new i would go with sundown any day but for the price i got the atomic for i coudnt turn it down ...not to mention i called atomic earlier and the said a 3000.1 new would cost me about 3900.......i was like wtf!!!!

I don't know who you talked to but the 3000.1 suggested retail is $1800.00 and it is 1ohm stable with a 5 year warranty. You could buy the 7500.1 for $3600.00 The Sundown and the Atomic is the same AMP the only different is sundown is running on a 3 year old circuit design and the Atomic has updated it design to be more efficient under heavy double kick drum abuse.

Also the Sundowns Subs called the night shade is an Atomic Apocalypse

The Night Shade 12" cost $630.00 retail and comes only in dual 2 ohm or dual 1 ohm

The Apocalypse cost $340.00 retail and comes in single 4 ohm, Dual 2 ohm, Dual 4 ohm, Dual 1 ohm

Also this sub been under the names of Digital Designs, Image Dynamic, MMats juggernaut, Eclipse Titanium, Kove, some U.S.A built Kenwood, FI, SSA, Sundown, and a few more brands I am not aloud to talk about.

Unless the have a factory there just a marketing company!! We all know how marketing company's go under as fast a most people change there socks.

As for warranty problems it is usually the dealer that has not ordered the re-cone kit or sent back the product for warranty. I have been using Atomic for over 10 years and have never had a problem with them at all.
