ATLAS 15 High/Low QTS.....

i might pick up an atlas is locally but he says it has 1 4 ohm coil and 1 8 ohm coil.

from what i can find the different ones are used for different qts values.

i would run it at 8 ohms since at 4 ohms i would have 800 watts and the sub wouldnt like that.

i will probably go sealed for lack of space in my trunk.

what difference does the different qts values make?

any help would be appreciated.

I though Chad told me that the adj. Q coil was 2 ohm. Im almost certian but I could be wrong. I was talking to him about running 3 Atlas's and he said if you wire the adj. Q coil and the other coil you can get 6 ohm, and power handling goes up too.

I cant remember the exact values that you can get with the adjustable Q, but it does make quite a bit of difference in the sound and loudness.

hmm, so i would need to wire both coils together to use the other qts setting.

and it might be 2 ohms, i have no clue. that is just what i was told by the seller.

with them wired together i get a 6 ohm load? and it handles more power?

sounds good.

which one is better for sq? or does it make a difference.

Bartak is correct, the coil for the adjustable Q is 2ohm not 8ohm.

It makes a lot of difference, as how you wire the subwoofer or what value resistor you use on the variable coil will determine the Qts value, and ultimately the Qtc for a given enclosure size, the necessary enclosure sizes, etc.

I would call Chad and speak with him about it, as the information page is no longer on AA's website and this isn't something you want to just "guess" at or work off of misinformation. And the Qts and such will vary greatly depending on how you use it.

Alright, now that Squeak confirmed that it was 2 ohm I remember Chad telling be when the second coil is wire in series for a 6 ohm load, power handling goes up to around 450ish watts, and it will set the Qts on low (.33 IIRC) only. No adjustment anymore.

hmm well i have 800 watts at 4 ohms so runing at 6 ohms would help tame the power level.

which setting would you suggest to run this sub sealed at 2.5 cubes. (i dont want to give up the room for ported.)

i want sq over spl.

i know it will be loud enough i just want it to sound perfect.

thanks,
