at what point is this necessary

A friend of mine has an 06 malibu with a 120a alt. We have done the big 3 in 1/0 and have ran the power wire and ground in 1/0 also. My question is at what point is adding a second battery necessary. His current amp is a kx1200 but eventually plans on getting an IA20.1 or somethin similar. So would a second battery be needed for when he gets the bigger amp or not?
