Army

Bottom line is the recruiters lie through their teeth. I went into the military back in 92 and when I got to basic training I couldn't believe how many guys were *****ing because they found out they weren't getting the job they were promised by the recruiter. They will tell you ANYTHING to get you in. Once you're in your *** belongs to them. I wouldn't recommend the military to anyone. I would learn a skilled trade and have a future.

Ive been recruited alot of times.......and have friends in the marines....The only plus that ive seen is when i see them walking around with alot of money.....and thats about it

Marines don't make much money at all.

"I wouldent recommend the military to anyone" I can't agree anymore than that. I've been in since early 04' and hate every minute of it. I am at the worse base and have the worst job. The only way I would recommend joining is if you are about to get locked up or are a serious druggy with nothing to loose. If you have any questions, I can help you out buddy. Ask away.

Yeah you do.
Pretty much I sign papers and go to basic training. Then AIT. There i learn a specific skill to be used in the army. I want to be a firefighter so the program im joining sends me back home once I complete my Army education and they pay for my college education in whatever I want (idealy fire science) and they have a job waiting for me when i get back from AIT (actually its an interview but i mean cmon - memphis fire dept is kinda hurtin). After I finish college im eligible to be called to god knows where till im 24. My education will be paid for and my career is there.

faulkton what do u think you go to basic training and then they ship you to iraq and draw assignments out of a hat? you pick what you want to do.
Nobody is really safe from deployment though. When they started deploying people from Korea, everyone realized noone is safe.

When I talked to them awhile ago you got to pick what you wanted to do and if you scored high enough they put you in that job. They have a list of what they need and the bonus that you get for that job, but I was also told by someone else to find what you want and wait till that position is needed then sign.
This is true. A recruiter might try to help you get a spot though. Only one I saw that was hard to get a spot was 74B

Zerohour if you were 18 - would you do it all over again?
I wouldnt. Id probly do air force is anything at all.

Curious, what was your score? I got a 93 and was recommended for all kinds of crap...

x2. The army will dick you on deployment time. Navy, from what I've heard from a few friends, is that its a 6month deployment with port calls every couple of days. Navy is where its at for me. 6 more months //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
you guys both beat me, I got a 92.

I am in they army. I say make sure it's what you really really want. cause to me it's more pain and suffering than pleasure. Good luck with you decision.

But yeah, make sure its really what you want to do.

Id recommend the air force and navy first. Some people liek the army some people hate it. I guess it all depends on the people you are workign with and places you go.

In korea, I could tolerate the army a lot of dumbasses there but I could still deal with it, and pretty much everyone there was happy, was a lax place. Ft stewart, dont think there was anyone stationed there that liked it.

Dont want to sound like a ***** but ocean and shit is no for me so no navy or coast guard (dont ask)
I really dont feel like I am capable to fly a billion dollar plane, or even **** with one - so no air force
WOW!! That's all I have to say. Do you know that less than 1/2 the people in the Air Force do anything with aircraft?? There's people on my base that haven't ever been on the flightline. As for what you want to do..Army...ARE YOU FRIGGIN NUTS??!! You scored a 94 on your ASVAB and you're considering the ARMY??!! You do realize that with that score, you could pick whatever job you want in any branch?? And with that score, you could join the Air Force or the Navy and not be surrounded by mono-syllabic morons? You wanna be a firefighter? That's great, a noble profession, do it in the Air Force or the Navy! Here's why... you become a firefighter in the AF or Navy, you learn how to deal with aircraft fires. That translates to massive amounts of money when you get out. You go Army, sure, you'll deal with vehicle fires, but mostly you'll deal with buildings and tents. Which means you get a job as a regular old fireman when you get out, and unfortunately, they aren't paid squat.

Here's another thing to look at. Deployments, no matter what branch you go in, they're inevitable, but there is different degrees of @$$f**king between the branches. I'll break it down for you.

Army: 12 month deployment, anywhere from 5-12 months home, sometimes as little as 2 months. You stay in the sandbox, sleep in tents, and eat really lousy food.

Marines: 7 month deployments, about the same home time as Army, but you're consistently home longer. See description of Army deployment, and that's the Marines too, but the Marines are waay cooler and smarter than the Army.

Navy: 6 month "deployment". You're on a boat, you sleep in a bed that you may or may not share with the guy on the opposite shift, you have daily showers, you have great food, and you pull into port routinely for "liberty", and see more than just the sandbox.

Air Force: 4 month deployment. You go to the sandbox. You see that they have built you a dormitory. You sleep in a real bed. You share the bed with nobody. You have a real bathroom with shower in your room. You routinely bring the medical girls into your room and bang the crap out of them. You have pretty good food in the chow hall, although the Navy has us beat in the food department. You get to go downtown in places like Doha, Qatar, and Kuwait City and buy stuff ultra cheap. You get drunk at least once a week. It may not be legal in Kuwait, but you made friends with the Brits and the Aussies and no one keeps them from their liquor. You go back home, and, barring a new war, you stay there for a MINIMUM OF 15 MONTHS!

So, you still wanna join the Army?? I'm all about making the same money for less BS, and the Air Force definitely has less BS. The choice is yours, good luck!

i for one am happy that you are joining you will learn alot of stuff and have a great future. score well on your test cause i believe thats what decides where you go in the military im not sure but thats what they did for my friend in the marines. but dont listen to any of these guys go for it you will be a better person at the end //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/patriotic.gif.b47a6e0394a3738334c387bdf79409f4.gif

All that can eb true, but it can also be false. I missed the first deployment to Iraq completely. THey came home and were home for 18 months. Then i went. I slept in a trailer, (also had internet in my room). For the last 6 months of the deployment we had a catering company (which was taking over all the cooking for most of the bases), so I had lobster and shrimp and steak at least twice a month, omlettes cooked the way you wanted, and fresh made pancakes and french toast. Didnt sleep in tents too much, only while waiting to go to iraq, from kuwait. yes there are dumb *** people in every branch, not just the army. I dont know where that came from. Yes he could pick pretty much any job in any branch, which means he can get expirience in whatever he wants, in any branch. Im not promoting the army here, but Im just being fair. the way you portrayed the army was just ridiculous though. What made my army expirience bad for me, was mostly the leaders at ft stewart. The other places were decent for the most part.

heres a pic of my room in Baghdad.

Everything I posted is true 90% of the time. The problem I have is smart people wasting their lives in the wrong branch. Sure, there's dumbasses in the AF, but we have a much lower density of them than in the Army. And usually they're relegated to doing things like handing out towels at the gym. Anyone who scores over a 90 should be barred from joining the Army, it's just a waste of intelligence to put them in the most unintelligent branch.

I just got back from Ali Al Salem (Kuwait) this month and everything he says is true. Well, except for banging medical chicks since I am happily married. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah......like the infantry doesn't need anyone that has any sense. For those who were never in the army or in a combat arms position i guess it would look like just plain grunt work. I can't blame you for your opinion, but someone has to do it and its not always the "dumbasssses" who do. take me for instance.....scored a 94 on the Asvab, GT score of 128 (don't know if you guys use GT score) and i served proudly as an infantryman. Of course, i went airborne school after AIT, then ranger, and then later on after i made E5, was recruited for SpecOps. All the while, i managed to earn 2 college degrees.

So yeah, army is just a bunch of dumbasssses.
