Active Duty AF here 7 1/2 years. I never have worked on a a/c. Only been deployed once, right after 9/11 to Oman. It wasn't bad, did sleep in tents and cots but had a/c and heat. Probably the best decision I made was to join. Air Force is still accepting people but you have to get a job thats needed. You can get you job before you say the oath. Just make sure its spelled out in your contract. Contracting is always short on people, which I cross trained into over a year ago. Works relatively easy, and pays a shit load outside the military. Always jobs open for us. Hell, before I started this job had Boeing offer me 100+/year to work for them, but I didn't have any experience in the careerfield, so it would not have help me. Depending on what job you take is what determines how many times if any you will be deployed. LMK if you have anymore questions. BTW the army tried to recruit me after HS as well, and my father is retired navy and never was at home. It was either the AF/Coast Guard or nothing.
