Arizona heat

I mean it sounds like the amp is just really sensitive. Mine are in my trunk and they are really hot when I get in. But they do not protect.

I would throw a couple computer fans on it, and maybe let it cool for a couple minutes before you turn it up. Not much we can do about 120 degree weather. It is god awful, though.

Any air movement is helpful in keeping any amplifier running cooler as long as there is a way to release the heat build up. I install all my amps...

Upside down should be fine. Airflow is all that matters. My buddy did this install. I think 14 amps. Look at that sloppy wiring. 😂 Vegas don't play.
