are people too stupid to understand how to get cheaper prices on ebay?

Well what you do is dont bid until 30 seconds are left in the auction then put the highest you'd be willing to pay, thats always worked for me. I usually wait until 20 seconds or less so if you put the bid in, it doesen't give the other bidders a chance to outbid you

I end up playing a game with myself. Separate windows with separate bids. I never have a MAX ill pay depending on if I really want the item. 30 secs left I bid....if I didn't take over the bid I switch to the other window and put in my higher bid.

I hate that bid at the last minute sh!t. If I see something I want I'll set my proxy bid at what I'm willing to pay for it and let it be. If they want to pay more then so be it. I know a lot of people will outbid you on ebay just for the sake of doing it. They will go way beyond what they're willing to pay just for that fuzzy feeling because "its better when you win it". I've seen on several occasions people get into bidding wars and run the bid up over what they could have just bought it outright for. That's also why I always look to see if I can just "buy it now" for a decent price without the hassle of bidding.

the amount of stupid in this thread is overwhelming

south jersey and north jersey are like 2 differnt states, i take offense to that "bro"
alright....this and the post after this are the first ill read and ill clarify before this turns into a ***** fight.

i go to ebay to find something i want...cheaper than i would normally find elsewhere. i saw an item listed for $100 that i wanted. i watched this item for a couple days, with absolutely no bids on it. i figured...well everyone is waiting on it till the last second to keep the price down and just hound on it and see who comes out on top.

so as the clock winds down i say, **** it, and place myself as the first bidder (thought i was safe since usually i see at least 1 bid on an item). i put down $100 for how much i want to bid since it was the minimum. needless to say i take off and come back a short while later. which is when i notice the $40 increase by a random guy. i say "shit"...but its still cheap as hell, so i bid on it last second and got it.

the thing that ircked me, was the fact that the guy increased it by $40, which to me seems retarded. yes i know some people use the auto bid thing, but i dont. the auto bid. not only that but the auto bid will only bid as high as it takes to beat the previous bid. so since i only bid the $100...i know he didnt use auto bid either since autobid isnt going to place a $40 bid on your behalf unless its required. i found it funny the next guy would straight up bid $40 instead of testing the waters first and bidding a dollar or so, just to see if i am on autobid, and then actually bid to what he wanted to pay at the last second going back and forth with me which would keep the price lower than what it sold for...which is why it bugged me.

needless to say this is a long post, needless to say dman is probably right and the seller is a sneaky SOB, and needless to say i guess i really DIDNT know how ebay works...at least the sellers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

hahaha funny stuff. I have been selling on ebay for 7 years now.
lets say i have an item for sale at 100.00 starting price.

you bid that 100 bucks with a max bid of say 140

auction shows 1 bid at 100.00

next guy comes around and bids 140. he has no way of knowing what your max bid was so he bid what he was willing to pay. which i might add was the same price you were willing to pay or the bid would not have went up to 140.

he does this in the last few seconds of the auction.

if you sat there and bid .50 cent bids you could NEVER bid fast enough to bid enough times before the auction ended.

the only thing he did wrong was bid an even number. you always bid a high uneven number like 120.84 then when you come around with your dumb *** .50 cent bidding practices you get sniped out for only a few cents.

dont get mad at that guy because he bid the auction up higher then you wanted. if you did not want to pay 140.50 you should have had a lower max bid. it is clear that you are the only one that does not undertsand proper bidding practices
you and a lot of others are thinking that for some reason everyone uses the auto bid feature and puts in a max price //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

save this one time...i bid during the absolute last seconds of the auction. there is only so many bids that you can get in in 1 minute while the auction is ending, which means the price will only go so high, unless someone decided to up the bid by a shit ton of money
