are my speakers underpowered

Ok i have 2 pair of sony 6.5 for my doors and passengers. I did the sound deadening and covered the holes with 1/8 mdf. The amp is a 4 ch. Jensen which i know is cheap but it says its cea cert. I really feel that my girl car gets louder then mine with her stock components and upgraded hu. Could my amp be too weak. I know the speakers can handle power, or hope they can for the price i paid. Oh and also is there a way i can bring the ohms down to 2 from 4 per ch.

On paper, seems like the ratings for speakers and amp match up, but CEA certification doesn't 100% assure that the amp really does what it says it does. What happens when you turn up the volume up high? There is not a way for you to bring down the resistance of each speaker.

I don't mean to disappoint you, but you got pretty low end stuff and I think you may have expected too much out of it. A friend of mine just installed Pioneer TS-D1702C in his car, they were only $100 shipped and rated at only 60W per side. Given they are being powered by a better amp, but I can guarantee they will be loud enough for you. Sony makes pretty bad car audio products and that's why they're never recommended. I wouldn't get better speakers with that amp and I wouldn't get a better amp for those speakers. If you want louder and better sounding, I'd get other equipment.

Wow iidnt expect that response at all. I felt the speakers were not at fault. They somewhat high end from from sony and i read nothing but great reviews. The speakers are really clean. My max is about on my h/u is 62 and i stop at about 45. Anything higher it gets fussy. I believe my problem is my amp and im still under the return periodso im sending it back for something a bit stronger

The best thing would've been to ask for advice on here before buying any of that stuff and you would've ended up with something totally different. You would not have been disappointed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If you can return the amp do it, but don't just get a more powerful one of those. Do you need amp recommendations? By the way, if you are still disappointed with the new amp - are you willing to change the speakers, too? I'd also be careful, sony products don't have the best build quality and throwing more power at them may blow them. Best case scenario, your amp just ****** and getting a better one will make it louder for ya.

I'd go with the pioneer you mentioned. I'm not sure exactly what you're saying about 2 ohms, but that should be nowhere in the conversation. Your speakers are 4 ohm speakers, that's mentioned right on the product spec page. The number of channels an amp has just means how many speakers it can power. Your jensen can do 4, this pioneer can do 2. That amp has a lot more power, on paper, than what your sonys can take, so I'd be careful not to blow them.

Btw I'm curious to find out how the returns at sonic go. If you do return/exchange it, would you update us on that? How long did it take? Return shipping, fees, any hassle, etc?

Im saying 2 ohms becauseif i ran 2 4ohm speakers to 1 ch it would be 2... im not worried about the speakers i have 2 year warranty with no questions asked with sonic. It came free with the speakers. If fact most of the sony products with sonic has a warranty.as far as the returns go they are very easy. Just give them a call and request an rga pay for the discount shipping slip or pay your own. Once they get the merch it takes about a week for them to credit you. Pretty easy for me plus i dont have to pay for shipping since both of my in laws drive for ups

Pointing the finger of blame at the speakers because they are Sony is a copout. We're not a Sony dealer, but I've heard from many reputable dealers who have a low defect rate with the current Sony car audio product.

My intent was bring down the expectations. I think I placed most of the blame on the amp. I had plenty of experience with bosses, power acoustiks, and others to say my expectations to get the most bang for the buck have disappointed. That's why I suggested replacing the amp would be good since it's still within the return period. Also, I have experience with the very same thing. Had a good JBL amp powering $90 infinity reference speakers. While they were decent, they sounded like absolute crap at high volumes. So it's hard to find really good items at these price points.

I happy with my sonys. This same amp Was with 2 pioneers 6x9s and 6.5 and it blew 2 of them them. These speakers are 2x the weight and 4x the built quality....i will upgrade the amp and go from there. If the speakers blow ill get a free replacement

It's much easier to blow speakers with "not enough" power than "too much power." I don't know how build quality is being judged here, but if they are that great for that price...you've got a great deal. Hope the new amp resolves this for you.

ok i got a lanzar vibe 231 which something like 450 x2 @2 ohms..... i know that is crazy with 2 20a fuses. but i got it for free brand new. and i was able to ship back the jensen to get store credit. oh and becuase this is the second time i sent the amp back, the shipping is free. so as of now im waiting for the credit to be applied to my account and i havent got around to hooking up the amp yet.

please inform on how this can happen....others may want to know. i have tried to explain to some and they do not get it. they then ask "if i have my 500w sub with a 500w amp and my radio is at volume 55/60 getting 500w out of the amp then playing my radio at 10/60, which will produce less power, the sub will blow?" just looking for clarification for those that will not/do not want to ask.

i understand but others may not. thanks for the explanation.
